death and catastrophe,bysuch events as the clash of rival gangs in the St.Valentine's Massacre.The decade ended in disaster befallingmillions of Americans as a great Stock Market Crashwiped out just about everyone who had moniey in stocks,bonds,or banks.  \nBut still,in the hot lazy days of May,there were thosewho cared little for the rest of the world.It is summer….atime for dreams.  \nJust outside the city of Providence,Rhode Island,hardby the Swam Point Cemetery,and not many miles fromthe Butler Insane Asylum,sprawls the gaudy neon-litpavilions of the North Star Amusement Arcade and Pleasure Pier,fronting the Seekonk River.  \nHere young swains take their ladies on hot summernights and children of all ages frolic the humid summerdays away.  \nThough a bit run down around the edges,and its gayfacade cracked and peeling,the carnival is still enjoyed bythe people of Providence.  \nPeople disappear from time to time,but it is always(sometimes correctly)attributed to the river's tricks.But-ler Insane Asylum is packed with gibbering and rantingpeople to which no one listens.  \nDuring this sun-bedazzled month of May several star-tling things will happen.These incidents are the “trigger”to ger the group of player-characters to become involved.One of these occurrances is so bizarre that it will brieflymake the papers in such large cities as New York andSan Francisco.  \nPRELUDES  \nThe following incidents are arranged in chronologicalorder,for the investigators to piece together.The thirdincident is published in the national papers,and willprobably be the key which willfirst interest the investi-gators.Information on the other incidents can be foundeither through looking through back editions of variousnewspapers,especially The Providence Joumal-Bulletin,or by
