Through the use of examples, this research investigates the purpose and role of colour within various cultures, analysing colour as a material, its linguistic and symbolic value. Additionally, this research attempts to gather diverse perspectives, with the aim of building a holistic view which encompasses individual colour perspectives derived from numerous communities, countries and past civilisations. This study will then serve to uncover the role that cultural colour perceptions have in relation to education, specifically art education. By making use of qualitative data collection through interviews with art educators working in the secondary sector, the influence that culture has in relation to colour, as well as the relevance and use of culture in planned lessons aims to be proven through the participants’ responses. Despite knowing that colour is undeniable in the development of art activities, the research will analyse data in order to see through which lens colour is being learned. By uncovering the cultural content that is currently being taught to students, we are able to determine how their learn, perceive and respond to colour and how this affects their artistic capabilities.  \nKey Words: Colour, culture, perceptions, education.  \nPREFACE  \nHaving a background in Fine Arts at the University of Malta, the concept of colour has always been at the centre of my learning process as an art student. Colour in particular has always been a topic in the field of art that I personally wanted to explore further and in fact it is the reason why I have taken the opportunity to conduct my Masters in Teaching and Learning dissertation about colour in relation to culture within the context of education. Additionally, I personally wanted to learn more about how colour is perceived internationally and how such knowledge may help me as a future art educator, provide important knowledge to students within their own art learning process. This research may help other students appreciate cultural views on colour and enable me to guide them in their own research and artistic development.
