They may only be identified by their candidate number. \nEach exam is marked by two experienced certified interpreters who, after marking each paper independently, consult each other to produce the final marked paper. \nEach text is marked out of 100 and the average of both texts is calculated with a passing mark of 70% . \nMarked papers are not returned to candidates. CTTIC is a certifying body, not a teaching institution and the CTTIC exam is only a tool used to assess candidates ’ knowledge and capabilities . \nRESOURCES \nThe use of dictionaries and electronic devices is strictly prohibited during the certification exam. \nEXAM FORMAT \nA) Written \nB) Oral \nCandidates who pass the written exam will be eligible to sit the oral exam at a later date. \nCandidates register and pay for the two examinations separately. \nThose who previously passed the written exam but failed the oral exam have a total of three consecutive opportunities to pass the oral exam. \nCOURT WRITTEN EXAMINATION STRUCTURE, EXAMINATION CONTENT, AND MARKING SCHEME \nPart 1: \nKnowledge of the law and court procedures. \n➢ 20 multiple-choice, 10 fill-in-the-blanks and 5 short definitions Pass mark: 70 \nPart II: \nA) Translation of Terminology into other language \n➢ Written translation of 15 legal/court terms and 2 short paragraphs on typical court proceedings from English into other language \nB) Translation of a Text into English. \n➢ Written translation into English of a 175-200-word text on a general legal or court-related subject. \nBroadly speaking, the evaluation is concerned with whether candidates have demonstrated comprehension by communicating the content and meaning clearly, using acceptable English form and style. \nCandidates are not expected to necessarily come up with the exact English equivalent of a given term, orto \"reproduce\" the source English text, although there should be a close correspondence. Court interpreters are expected to have a reasonable mastery of written English, but are not expected to be atthe level of a certified translator into English. \nPass mark: 60 \nPart III: \nInterpreter Professional Practice and Ethics. \n➢ Written answers to case scenarios (e.g. 3 brief and 3 longer essay-type answers to 6 scenarios Pass mark: 70 \nThe pass mark on Part II: Written Translation is 60% . If candidates have less than 60%, they have failed the written exam, even if they did well on the Legal Knowledge and Ethics components. \nA mark of 60% or higher on the translation portion will be averaged with the marks achieved on the other two exam components, to arrive at the final grade. This will be done by CTTIC. \nAlthough a candidate may pass Part II-Written Translation with under 70%, the overall pass mark on the written exam is 70% after averaging the three parts. \nSTRATEGY FOR SUCCESS \nA translation exam is also a reading comprehension exam! Read each source text twice before you begin to translate. \nCOURT ORAL EXAM STRUCTURE \nPart I: \nA) Sight translation from English into other language (typical content includes police report, witness statement, or an indictment), approximately 300 words. \nB) Sight translation from other language into English \nPass mark: 70% \nPart II: \nConsecutive interpreting of a cou","cbCainvQC8OWrY0r","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCainvQC8OWrY0r","pdf",292582,"English","# Requirements to Sit the Exam\n# Disclaimer\n# Resources\n# Exam Format\n## Written\n## Oral\n# Court Written Examination Structure, Examination Content, and Marking Scheme\n## Part 1\n## Part II\n## Part III\n# Strategy for Success\n# Court Oral Exam Structure\n## Part I\n## Part II\n## Part III\n# Appeal Process\n# Results\n# Practice Cases\n# Useful Links","[{\"question\":\"Who is eligible to register for the CTTIC written examination?\",\"answer\":\"Only candidates for certification and certified members in court interpreting are eligible to register for the written examination in their language combination(s).\"},{\"question\":\"What are the rules for marking and scoring the exam?\",\"answer\":\"Each exam is marked by two experienced certified interpreters who mark independently and then consult to produce the final marked paper.
