It details essential protocols for both contrast-enhanced and non-contrast scans, including fasting requirements, medication adjustments—specifically regarding metformin-based drugs—and the importance of hydration. Furthermore, it outlines the facility's updated imaging protocol, replacing traditional Barium contrast with water-based agents for improved bowel distention, while specifying exceptions for complex abdominal conditions. These guidelines ensure patient safety, optimal scan quality, and efficient clinic operations through clear, actionable directions on arrival, scheduling, and pre-procedural hydration.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":35,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/ct-scan-preparation-instructions-patient-guidelines/402686/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/ct-scan-preparation-instructions-patient-guidelines/402686.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Franzy","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-28","2026-09-27",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":44},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"What are the fasting requirements for a CT scan with contrast?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"Patients must avoid food for 4 hours prior to the scan, though water is permitted. Patients that need a CT Abdomen and CT Abdomen Pelvis scans, whether with or without IV contrast, will be instructed to drink 16 ounces of water 1 hour prior to the exam, and be provided with an additional 8 ounces of water 15 minutes prior to the exam. Patients that have a diagnosis that include an abdominal abscess, fistula, or bowel obstruction/ileus will be prompted to drink GASTROVIEW oral contrast when scheduling the exam, in which is STILL a 2-hour prep that the patient will complete upon arriving to the imaging department.
