The game requires two players, each with 25 colored counters, aiming to form an unbroken path from the start to the finish of the river-themed grid. By identifying and reciting the 8-multiplication fact corresponding to a chosen hexagon, players claim territory on the board. The game incorporates strategic elements, allowing players to build their own paths or block their opponents, while navigating around 'danger' snake hexes and utilizing 'lily pad' green hexes. The aim of the game is to complete an unbroken path of counters or ‘lily pads’ from one side of the river to the other by recalling your 8 times table. Age range: 3rd Grade+ \nNumber of players: 2 \nLearning: 8 times table You will need \n- Each player will need 25 counters of their own color. \nInstructions \n• The first player to start places chooses any of the hexagons on the grid with a number on it. They say the 8 times table fact which the number is equal to. E.g. if the number is \n48, they say ‘8 times 6 equals 48’ or ‘6 times 8 equals 48’. \n• If the fact is correct, they place a counter on the number. If they are wrong, they do not get to place a counter. \n• The second player now chooses any of the uncovered hexagons with a number on it. They say the 8 times table fact which their number is equal to. \n• Players can choose to either create their own path or block the path of their opponent. \n• Play continues until a player manages to complete an unbroken line of counters across the river from the left side of the board (Start) to the right side of the board (Finish) . The first player to do this is the winner. \n• If no player manages to make a path across the pond then the game is drawn. \n• The green hexagons on the board are existing lily pads on the river which any player can use to make their paths. The red snake hexagons are danger hexagons which cannot be used in any paths. You cannot place a counter on the green or red hexagons. \nExamples of Winning Paths \nThe thick red lines show examples of 2 winning paths from one side of the pond to the other.","cbCaighfRecamqbC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaighfRecamqbC","pdf",664950,"English","# Game Overview\n## Learning Objectives\n# Setup and Requirements\n# Game Instructions\n## Winning the Game\n## Board Features\n# Winning Path Examples","[{\"question\":\"What is the main objective of the Cross the River game?\",\"answer\":\"The goal is to be the first player to create an unbroken path of counters across the board from the Start side to the Finish side by correctly identifying 8 times table facts.\"},{\"question\":\"How do players claim a space on the board?\",\"answer\":\"Players choose an uncovered hexagon, recite the corresponding 8 times table fact (e.g., '8 times 6 equals 48'), and if correct, place their colored counter on that hexagon.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the function of the red and green hexagons on the board?\",\"answer\":\"Green hexagons act as pre-existing 'lily pads' that any player can use for their paths, while red snake hexagons are 'danger' zones that cannot be used at all.\"}]","Cross the River - 8 Times Table | PDF",1792673330]
