The game supports two players who compete to create an unbroken path of counters across a river-themed grid. Players identify multiplication facts associated with numbers in hexagonal spaces to claim territory. The game board includes neutral green 'lily pads' to assist in path building and red 'danger' snake spaces that must be avoided. By balancing personal path creation with defensive blocking, players build fluency in multiplication while developing strategic thinking. The aim of the game is to complete an unbroken path of counters or ‘lily pads’ from one side of the river to the other by recalling your 3 times table. Age range: 3rd Grade+ \nNumber of players: 2 \nLearning: 3 times table You will need \n- Each player will need 10 counters of their own color. \nInstructions \n• The first player to start places chooses any of the hexagons on the grid with a number on it. They say the 3 times table fact which the number is equal to. E.g. if the number is \n21, they say ‘3 times 7 equals 21’ or ‘7 times 3 equals 21’. \n• If the fact is correct, they place a counter on the number. If they are wrong, they do not get to place a counter. \n• The second player now chooses any of the uncovered hexagons with a number on it. They say the 3 times table fact which their number is equal to. \n• Players can choose to either create their own path or block the path of their opponent. \n• Play continues until a player manages to complete an unbroken line of counters across the river from the left side of the board (Start) to the right side of the board (Finish) . The first player to do this is the winner. \n• If no player manages to make a path across the pond then the game is drawn. \n• The green hexagons on the board are existing lily pads on the river which any player can use to make their paths. The red snake hexagons are danger hexagons which cannot be used in any paths. You cannot place a counter on the green or red hexagons. \nExamples of Winning Paths \nThe thick red lines show examples of 2 winning paths from one side of the pond to the other.","cbCaiiHSzTIC4ktz","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiiHSzTIC4ktz","pdf",647469,"English","# Game Overview\n## Game Objectives and Materials\n# Rules of Play\n## Gameplay Instructions\n## Winning and Path Creation\n## Special Board Elements","[{\"question\":\"What is the primary goal of the Cross the River game?\",\"answer\":\"The goal is to be the first player to create an unbroken path of counters from the 'Start' side to the 'Finish' side of the river board.\"},{\"question\":\"How do players claim a space on the board?\",\"answer\":\"Players choose a hexagon with a number, then correctly state the corresponding multiplication fact (e.g., '3 times 7 equals 21').
