Control\n\nChicago Outlines Plan To Increase UseOf Technology To Improve Intelligence \nChicago has outlined a new plan that will go into force under a reor- ganized police administration that will increase the use of technology toimprove intelligence as the primarymeans of controlling crime. \nThe changes come as Chicago se-lected outside leadership to try to re-store public confidence after a seriesof incidents involving offices thatdamaged the command and control offormer Superintendent Philip Cline. \nTo succeed Cline,Mayor Richard \nM.Daley selected J.P.(Jody)Weis, \n49,a 22-year FBI veteran includingthree years as agent in charge of theChicago field office. \nThe mayor charged Weis withcontinuing to reduce crime and in-crease confidence of the public in thenation's second largest police de-partment. \nWeis is the first outsider to headthe department since the selection ofUniversity of California-Berkeleycriminologist O.W.Wilson in 1960. \nSix members of the Special Op-erations Section face felony countsfor alleged corruption. There werealso complaints about constitutionalbreaches and other incidents that vio-late departmental standards. The unithas been disbanded. \nIn addition, four officers have \nbeen charged for alleged involvementin two off-duty bar fights filmed onvideotape. \nWeis said intelligence is rising inimportance for police work that in-creasingly involves penetrating drugand street gangs, which are the pri-mary sources of violent crime in Chi-cago. \nWeis said he would build on hisFBI experience that involved terror-ism,narcotics and violent crimes in-vestigations. \nThe mayor said key problems forthe police department in 2008 will be: \nFinding new ways to preventand fight violence against children. \n·Using all the tools at our dis-posal to go after the drug kingpinsand gang thugs who still terrorizesome neighborhoods \n·Continuing to get more gunsoff our streets each year, includingfollowing up on the City's success-ful gun turn in programs. \n·Using technology, especiallythe use of neighborhood safetycameras,to help prevent crime. \n·Continuing efforts to installcameras in police cars to recordtraffic stops and other interactionswith the community. \n·Hiring more police officersand assigning them to street duty. \n## MORE USE OF INJUCTIONSHITS LOS ANGELES GANGS\n\nLos Angeles prosecutors have in-creased their use of injunctions tocurb the activities of gang membersand drug dealers in the city's notori-ous skid row community. \nIn seeking injunctions addressingillegai activities,The District Attor-ney's Hardcore Gang Division identi-fies by name gang members, drugdealers and individuals arrested atleast twice for drug possession. \nThe injunctions also reach intonew legal territory by citing familymembers and surrogates of knownfelons. \nTo make enforcement","cbCaiewpVjXXo6iq","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiewpVjXXo6iq","pdf",3395856,"English","# Crime Control\n## Chicago
