Data indicate that, by mid-January 2022, only about 15% of Iraqis were fully vaccinated and another 7% partially vaccinated, placing Iraq among the lowest performers in the Middle East and North Africa and far below global vaccination levels. The report analyzes disparities in vaccination and vaccine hesitancy using the last three rounds of the Iraq High Frequency Phone Survey conducted between June and August 2021. Conducted through mobile-phone interviews of over 1,600 nationally representative adults per round, the survey includes socioeconomic and food security modules and a specific vaccination module to monitor distribution and acceptance during the pandemic.","Authorized Public Disclosure Authorized Pub l ic Disclosure Authorized Public Disclosure Authorized \nWor ld Bank / CODEX Productions \nCOVID-19 Vaccine Inequities and Hesitancy in Iraq \nResults from June, July, and August 2021 Rounds of Iraq High Frequency Phone Survey (IHFPS) \nTable of Contents List of Tables \n Acronyms 04 Acknowledgements 05 Executive summary 07 Background 09 Results I: Vaccination and vaccine hesitancy 15 Results 2: Disparities in vaccination and vaccine hesitancy 18 Discussion and Conclusions 28 Works Cited 30 Annex I: Sampling Design 33 Annex II: Reweighting for the High Frequency Phone Survey in Iraq (IHFPS 2021) 34 \nTable 1: Respondents and household characteristics (by survey round) . 14 \nList of Figures \n Figure 1: Daily new cases and deaths attributed to Covid-19 (seven day rolling average) . 10 \nFigure 2: Cumulative cases and deaths per 1 million population as of January 19, 2022. 11 \n\n| Figure 3: Average stringency index as of January 19, 2022. 11 | |\n| --- | --- |\n| Figure 4: Daily new Covid-19 vaccine doses administered (seven day rolling average) . 13 | |\n| Figure 5: Share of population vaccinated against Covid-19 as of January 19, 2022. 14 | |\n| Figure 6: vaccination and vaccine hesitancy among Iraqi adults aged 18 or over. | 16 |\n| Figure 7: Awareness and knowledge regarding Covid-19 vaccine availability among unvaccinated | 17 |\n| Figure 8: Awareness and knowledge of vaccine in Iraq by hesitancy category (among unvaccinated adult Iraqis) | 18 |\n| Figure 9: Knowledge ofwhere to get vaccine by vaccine hesitancy category (among unvaccinated adult Iraqis) | 18 |\n| Figure 10: Reasons why unvaccinated adult Iraqis are not sure or not planning to get vaccinated | 19 |\n| Figure 11: Vaccination by education status | 21 |\n| Figure 12: Vaccine hesitancy by education status | 21 |\n\n Figure 13: Vaccination by employment status 22 \nFigure 14: Vaccine hesitancy by employment status 22 \nFigure 15: Vaccination by age group 24 \nFigure 16: Vaccine hesitancy by age group 24 \nFigure 17: Vaccination by gender, region, and environment type 24 \nFigure 18: Vaccine hesitancy by gender, region, environment type 24 \nFigure 19: Vaccination and respondent’s household food security and expenditure 25 \nFigure 20: Vaccine hesitancy and respondent’s household food security and expenditure 25 \nFigure 21: Vaccination by asset ownership 26 \nFigure 22: Vaccine hesitancy by asset ownership 26 \nFigure 23: Vaccination by respondent’s household wealth index 27 \nFigure 24: Vaccine hesitancy by respondent’s household wealth index 27 \nAcronyms \nCEPI-Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations \nCFSVA-Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Analysis FCS-Food Consumption Score \nIDPs-Internal Displaced Peoples \nIHFPS-Iraq High Frequency Phone Survey MENA-Middle East and North Africa MICS-Multi Indicator Cluster Survey MNOs-Mobile Network Operators \nmVAM-mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping PSM-Propensity Score Matching \nWFP-World Food Programme \nAcknowledgements \nThis report was prepared by Kwabena Krah and Lokendra Phadera from the World Bank’s Poverty and Equity Global Practice.
