Even though most children are very resilient to COVID-19, many parents/guardians have valid concerns that the student could carry the virus home to vulnerable family members or others living in the home. \nThe decision to return to school is dependent on the capability of the district to maintain a safe and healthy environment. The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has developed this guidance document as a companion piece to the Kentucky Department for Public Health’s“Guidance on Safety Expectations and Best Practices for Kentucky Schools (K-12).” It is intended to be a guide for local school districts when developing and adapting their return-toschool plans. \nThis is not a “one size fits all” guide and is based on best practice guidance and information from relevant state and federal agencies. However, due to the nature ofCOVID-19, this is everevolving information and districts should work closely with their local health departments and other partners to ensure their policies, procedures and protocols align with the current scientific information. As the situation evolves, it is expected that those plans will need to be re-evaluated and adjusted as necessary. \nTable of Contents \nHealth and Safety Team .................................................................................................................. 2 \nCOVID-19 Response Team ........................................................................................................ 2 \nConsiderations for District Planning........................................................................................... 2 \nHealth Resources and Support ........................................................................................................ 3 \nSchool Nurse Consultant............................................................................................................. 3 \nAdditional Duties for the School Nurse in Response to COVID-19 .......................................... 3 \nSchool Health Room ................................................................................................................... 4 \nMitigation Strategies ....................................................................................................................... 5 \nPPE.............................................................................................................................................. 5 \nMasks .......................................................................................................................................... 5 \nHand Hygiene ............................................................................................................................. 6 \nSocial Distancing ........................................................................................................................ 6 \nTemperatures............................................................................................................................... 7 \nEmployee Health and Wellness ...................................................................................................... 7 \nHealth Self-Assessment .............................................................................................................. 7 \nStudent Health and Wellness .......................................................................................................... 8 \nHealth Assessment at School ...................................................................................................... 8 \nAppendix A: Sample Parental Assurance for Student Health ...................................................... 10 \nAppendix B: Sample Employee Health Assessment Form .......................................................... 11 \nHealth and Safety Team \nCOVID-19 Response Team \nThe U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ha","cbCailT1H8690XlB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailT1H8690XlB","pdf",307950,11,"English","# Health and Safety Team\n## COVID-19 Response Team\n# Considerations for District Planning\n## Health Resources and Support\n# School Health Room\n## Mitigation Strategies\n## PPE\n## Masks\n## Hand Hygiene\n## Social Distancing\n## Temperatures\n## Employee Health and Wellness\n## Health Self-Assessment\n## Student Health and Wellness\n## Health Assessment at School\n# Appendix A: Sample Parental Assurance for Student Health\n# Appendix B: Sample Employee Health Assessment Form","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this Kentucky K-12 return-to-school guidance?\",\"answer\":\"It provides a companion planning document to help local school districts develop and adapt their return-to-school plans during COVID-19.\"},{\"question\":\"How are district planning teams expected to be organized?\",\"answer\":\"The guidance describes designated point persons and a checklist approach, forming a core COVID-19 planning team alongside the district superintendent and support from local health departments.\"},{\"question\":\"What mitigation strategies are covered for schools?\",\"answer\":\"Key strategies include PPE, masks, hand hygiene, social distancing, temperature checks, and health self-assessment for both employees and students.\"}]","COVID-19 Guidance for Kentucky Schools (K-12) - Return to School Planning | PDF",1792051608,28]
