I believe accuracy in fiction matters, and that stories can help people feel seen.  \nWhile preparing to write Courting Korie, I spoke with many non-cis individuals to better understand their experiences with both gender identity and sexuality. Their stories, and their willingness to share them with me, were invaluable, and I’m deeply grateful for their trust.  \nWhat I learned is this: people are both beautifully unique and incredibly complex. No two experiences were the same. That left me with a realization—writing a story that every non-cis reader would fully relate to isn’t possible. Representing one experience will never encompass them all. Still, I listened carefully and incorporated feedback wherever I could.  \nA few individuals also provided sensitivity reads, which I truly appreciated. In the end, they all said the same thing: this story feels true to Korie.
