in the Pacific during World War II。Its use was almost always spectacularly successful and contributedlargely to the successful operations against the Japanese Empire.Nevertheless a rigid analysis of the coral used reveels it to be arather poor material。This study briefly reviews the theoreticalconcepts of the origin of coral deposits and describes the nature ofthe various types of deposits. From this a guide is established toassist the construction engineer in finding the coral he needs,some-times a difficult problem。 \nThe characteristics of coral deposits are explained and amethod of processing the coral for desirable results is given, alongwith the reasons for the method.Alogical explanation for the\"setting up\"phenomena is established. \n# PART II\n\nCHEMICAL STABILIZATION OF CORAL SURFACES \n## ABSTRACT\n\nThe possibility of chemical stabilization of the top surfaceof coral bases to prevent dust is explored. The process involved isanalysed and an order of magnitude of quantities determined.Thenecessary experiments to prove the process and tentative field pro-cedures are outlined. \n# SECTION I\n\nINTRODUCTION \nLimestone,one of the earth¹s abundant construction stones,is plentifully available in most tropical and semi-tropical watersof the world in the form of coral reefs. Throughout the Indian andPacific Oceans the bulk of the land formations are coral reefs.Theyoccur in three general forms;fringing reefs, berrier reefs, and atolls, and reefs originally formed in one of the above forms and later elevatedabove sea level. In the same general forms coral is also present inquantity in the Red Sea,the Caribbean and as a component of the Floridakeys. There is considerable evidence that meny of the present landlimestone formations, far removed from the present sea, originated ascoral reefs in the ocean. As an example, fossil coral of the MidDevonian period of the Paleozoic era have been identified in limestonedeposits of Ohio. \nIn spite of the extensive use of land limestone and the wide-spread deposits of coral limestone the use of coral as constructionstone was generally frowned upon prior to World War II.It wasconsidered,at best, just a poor substitute to be used when othermaterial was not economically available. This erroneous concept wasso generally believed that Army and Navy Construction agencies evendiscussed the possibility of shipping acceptable grades of crushedrock for the construction of advanced beses on islands in the","cbCaisrEeCin9mUm","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisrEeCin9mUm","pdf",32510165,95,"English","# PART I\n## Section I: Introduction\n## Section II: The Formation of Coral Reefs\n## Section III: Construction Use of Coral Aggregate\n## Section IV: Conclusion\n# PART II\n## Introduction\n## Precipitation by Chemical Reaction\n## Necessary Experimental Work\n## Effect of Magnesium Carbonate\n## Chemical and Empirical Equations and Computations\n## Graph of Results\n## References","[{\"question\":\"What kinds of methods and theories does the report cover for coral deposits?\",\"answer\":\"The report reviews theoretical concepts of coral deposit origin, explains characteristics of deposit varieties, gives a processing method for desirable results, and provides an analytical explanation for the “setting up” phenomena.\"}]","Coral Limestone and Its Use - Part I - Coral Limestone and Its Use | PDF",1791082174,239]
