Or this: \"I always throw away so much food, it's cheaper to dine out or grab fast food\". \nIt can be a challenge and may take time to adjust, but it's not impossible to cook healthy for one person! From my personal experiences cooking solo, I've learned what recipes and ingredients work, how to minimize food waste, and save money. Best of all, you won't have to eat the same thing for an entire week! \nLet's get cooking! \n-Karman \nEAT WELL. SAVE MONEY. REDUCE FOOD WASTE. \nCOOKING FOR ONE: \nPRO TIPS \n1. MAKE A PLAN \nPlanning at least 2-3 meals for the week is a big help when it comes to eating healthier and reducing food waste. Choose recipes that use similar ingredients so you can keep grocery costs down and minimize the amount of food you throw away. \n2. RE-PURPOSE LEFTOVERS \nTurning leftovers into new meals prevents boredom and helps save money. Have leftover chicken or steak from a previous meal? Turn it into tacos or make a wrap for lunch. Add leftover cooked salmon or veggies to an omelet for a quick & easy breakfast. Use leftover grains like rice or quinoa to make soup or add to leafy green salads. When I purposely plan to make 2 recipes for the week, I buy enough so I can also have 2 leftover meals. \n3. KEEP IT SIMPLE \nBuy frozen vegetables, fruits, or grains to save on prep time without sacrificing nutrition. Frozen seafood is also a great option. And don't feel like the recipes you add to a meal plan have to be super fancy--just make sure it's something you'll actually make & enjoy! \nCOOKING FOR ONE: \nPRO TIPS \n4. TAPAS-STYLE DINNER \nThere's no shame in eating a meal pieced together with several different elements to create a 'tapas-style' experience. This traditional Spanish-style of eating is becoming more common in restaurants where groups order multiple small dishes and then share. You can create your own tapas-style meal by creating a plate with a few slices of different cheeses, crackers or sliced, artisan bread, a variety of meats like prosciutto, and then add some color with pickled vegetables and some fresh fruit like grapes or strawberries. You can get really creative with these tapas-style plates! \n5. SINGLE SERVINGS & BULK BIN BUYS \nThese two things may seem like exact opposites but they both work well when buying for one because you can control how much you're getting. Head to the meat or seafood counter to buy individual portions or smaller amounts than packaged meats. For items like rice, nuts, snack mixes, or even chocolate-covered treats, scoop from the bulk bins so you can get only what you need. \n6. FREEZE IT \nThere are endless freezer meal recipes out there so save yourself some time by cooking larger quantities and freezing some to use later. \nCOOKING FOR ONE: \nRecipes \nL E M O N B L U E B E R R Y Q U I N O A B R E A K F A S T B A R S \nThese bars are great to make on the weekend for an easy breakfast or snack option to have throughout the week. In a small saucepan, add quinoa with 1 cup of water and add a das h of cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer, cover with a lid and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until water is absorbed. Fluff quinoa with a fork and set aside to cool. \n2.
