Provides an overview of routes through texts, contexts, genres, and debates, while foregrounding key themes such as post–World War II experimental change, revisiting the American Dream, African-American theatre voices, avant-garde performance revolutions, and boundary-testing representation. Also addresses identity politics, exclusion, fragmented depictions of American identity during the Vietnam War, and visibility through performance art and the NEA The subject also spans a diverse array of genres from tragedy to cyberpunk, incorporates such hybrid fields of study as Asian American literature, black British literature, creative writing and literary adaptations, and remains eclectic in its methodology. \nSuch diversity is cause for both celebration and consternation. English is varied enough to promise enrichment and enjoyment for all kinds of readers and to challenge preconceptions about what the study of literature might involve. But how are readers to navigate their way through such literary and cultural diversity? And how are students to make sense of the various literary categories and periodisations, such as modernism and the Renaissance, or the proliferating theories of literature, from feminism and marxism to queer theory and eco-criticism? The Edinburgh Critical Guides to Literature series reflects the challenges and pluralities of English today, but at the same time it offers readers clear and accessible routes through the texts, contexts, genres, historical periods and debates within the subject. \nMartin Halliwell and Andy Mousley \nAcknowledgements \nIwould like to acknowledge the many colleagues, artists, student","cbCaibpUuRd95HL1","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibpUuRd95HL1","pdf",2533011,247,"English","# Contents\n## Series Preface\n## Acknowledgements\n## Chronology\n## Introduction\n## Chapter 1 Experimental Innovations After the Second World War\n## Chapter 2 Revisiting the American Dream\n## Chapter 3 African-American Theatre: Voices from the Margins\n## Chapter 4 Avant-Garde Theatre Groups: Revolutions in Performance\n## Chapter 5 Postmodern Presentations: Questioning Boundaries of Representation\n## Chapter 6 The Politics of Identity and Exclusion\n## Chapter 7 Fragmented Representations of American Identity in the Theatre of the Vietnam War\n## Chapter 8 The ‘NEA Four’ and Performance Art: Making Visible the Invisible\n## Conclusion\n## Student Resources\n## Glossary\n## Guide to Further Reading\n## Index","[{\"question\":\"What series is this book part of?\",\"answer\":\"It belongs to the Edinburgh Critical Guides to Literature series.\"},{\"question\":\"Which topics does the introduction and early chapters cover?\",\"answer\":\"They cover how readers navigate literary diversity and categories, and they foreground theatre’s engagement with experimental innovation, the American Dream, and changing modes of representation.\"},{\"question\":\"What major theme does the book address in its discussion of later chapters?\",\"answer\":\"Identity politics and exclusion, including fragmented representations of American identity connected to the Vietnam War and visibility through performance art associated with the NEA Four.\"}]","Contemporary American Drama - Introduction to Experimental Innovations and Identity Politics | PDF",1789773048,380]
