Explains how each FSMQ subject has two components with defined weighting, using scaling factors on component marks to produce grade A and E boundaries at subject level. Describes how grade B, C and D boundaries are obtained by interpolation and notes that rounding order makes component-level totals notional, so comparisons for grading use overall subject marks against the subject boundaries provided in results documentation. Therefore, scaling factors are applied to the individual component marks to ensure that each component carries the correct weighting. The grade A and E boundaries are set at component level and these boundaries are then scaled and added to provide grade A and E boundaries for the subject as a whole. The grade B, C and D boundaries are determined by interpolation at a subject level and are not set for the constituent components. Because of the order in which rounding takes place, the component boundaries described in this document should be considered as notional as sometimes the sum of the scaled component boundaries may differ from the subject boundary. For grading purposes a candidate’s overall subject mark is compared to the overall subject boundaries as supplied in the results documentation. \nUniform mark grade boundaries can be found in Appendix A of the Uniform Marks Leaflet. \nFor further information, [contact](contact Research@aqa.org.uk)[ ](contact Research@aqa.org.uk)[Research@aqa.org.uk](contact Research@aqa.org.uk). \nPublished 14 August 2008 \nCopyright © 2008 AQA and its licensors.
