It defines and illustrates key concepts such as Bleed, Close-up, Extreme Close-up, Extreme Longshot, Longshot, and Reverse. Each entry includes a clear definition and practical context on how these techniques are applied to narrative storytelling, panel layout, and visual impact. The guide serves as a foundational resource for students or aspiring comic artists learning to structure visual sequences effectively. By explaining how artist perspectives like bird's-eye and worm's-eye views function within the longshot framework, the text helps readers analyze and create professional-quality sequential art.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":25,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/comic/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/comic-vocabulary-definitions-angles/418863/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/comic-vocabulary-definitions-angles/418863.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Aurelia","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-26","2026-09-28",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":34},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"What is a bleed in a comic book?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"A bleed refers to images that extend outside the border of the panel, with a full bleed occurring when the image goes past all four sides of the panel.","Answer",{"name":115,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":116},"What is the difference between an extreme longshot and a longshot?",{"text":117,"@type":113},"An extreme longshot shows objects or characters in a very small scale, such as a landscape, while a longshot shows objects or characters fully from top to bottom.",{"name":119,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":120},"How is the reverse technique used in comics?",{"text":121,"@type":113},"The reverse technique involves presenting images in a reversed position compared to the previous panel, often to indicate a change in speaker or point of view.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":83,"og:type":124,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":95,"og:description":67},"article",{"robots":126,"canonical":83},"index,follow",{"doc_id":128,"site_id":62},418863,1791474650,{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":131},{"doc_id":128,"user_id":132,"nickname":92,"user_avatar":133,"doc_module":4,"category_id":24,"category_name":25,"doc_title":65,"doc_description":67,"doc_content":134,"file_id":135,"file_url":136,"file_type":137,"file_size":138,"view_count":34,"is_deleted":4,"is_public":8,"is_downloadable":8,"audit_status":8,"page_count":14,"language":139,"language_code":63,"site_id":62,"html_lang":63,"table_of_contents":140,"faqs":141,"seo_title":142,"seo_description":67,"update_tm":143,"read_time":8},1099514068365,"https://ap-avatar.wpscdn.com/avatar/10000253d8d9f28188e?_k=1776742907772140068","Comic Vocabulary Definitions and Examples: Angles \nBleed \nImages that run outside the border of the panel. In this example, the top and bottom of the taco as well as the taco’s left arm bleed outside of the comic panel. \nWhen an image runs outside the panel on all four sides, it is called a full bleed. Comic book covers frequently use a full bleed. \nClose-up \nImages that are shown in a large view. Frequently, closeups focus on a character’s face, but they can be used to highlight anything. \nThis example shows a close-upon a specific character from the comic. \nExtreme Close-up \nImages that are shown in very large view, often focusing on a small portion of a larger objector character. \nThe image in a comic is drawn as if the artist as zoomed in very closely on the object or character. \nComics designed by Traci Gardner. Clipart ©[2006 www.clipart.com](2006 www.clipart.com) \nExtreme Longshot \nImages that show objects or characters in very small scale. Frequently, extreme longshots are used to show a full landscape or a crowd of characters. Extreme longshots may show objects or characters that are a mile or more away. \nAn extreme longshot drawn from the perspective of someone above the characters or objects is called a bird’s eye view. Worm’s eye view describes an extreme longshot taken from below the objects or characters. \nLongshot \nImages that show objects fully, from top to bottom. When alongshot focuses on characters, the panel shows the characters from head to toe. Readers can see the character’s full body. \nReverse \nImages that are in reverse position from the previous panel. This technique is often used to show changes speaker or point of view. \nIn this example, the first panel has the orange on the left and the cherry on the right. The second panel reverses the objects. \nComics designed by Traci Gardner.
