Each year it produced alot of fruit and vegetables, but each year they worried when it came to planting time because of the cost of the seeds. It always cost them a lot more than they had saved from the previous year’s harvest  \n*M1 always had to borrow money in order to buy seeds, and he had to pay this money back after the harvest. He never made much profit.  \nWhat should he do? How could he avoid these debts?  \nOne day an agricultural advisor came to the village. He offered to teach the farmers how to collect and save the seeds so that they could plant them the following year.  \n*M1 and *F1 discussed it, and decided that they would like to learn what he was offering to teach them.  \nThe advisor first taught them to recognize the different families of plants. For instance, there are many different plants in the cabbage family.  \nCabbages grow in colder climates, and their flavour improves after a mild frost.  \nSome vegetables in the cabbage family are:  \nKale Brussels Sprouts  \nCauliflower Chinese Cabbage  \nBroccoli Spring Greens  \nThe plants in the Cabbage family will fertilise each other, and so if you want to keep the seeds, you must not let this happen, as seeds that are cross fertilised will not grow well. So do not sow different types of cabbage together. If you have different varieties, sow them at least 300 feet (100 metres) away from those you are seeding.  \nTo collect cabbage seeds  \nCabbages do not produce seeds in their first year, so leave first year plants in the ground and collect the seeds from healthy plants in their second year.
