Peroxides)Order 1973,andstatutory requirements relating to the packaging of these substances are set outin the Organic Peroxides(Conveyance by Road)Regulations 1973.In NorthernIreland reference should be made to the Petroleum(Organic Peroxides)Order(Northern Ireland)1974,the Organic Peroxides(Conveyance by Road)Rules(Northern Ireland)1974 and the Petroleum(Consolidation)Act(NorthernIreland)1929.The recommendations set out in this Code are supplementary tothe statutory requirements and their object is to ensure that the packaging inwhich organic peroxides are conveyed is suited to the nature of the product andis sufficiently strong to meet all the normal requirements of conveyance. \n# PACKAGING CATEGORIES\n\n2.In Part I of this Code,a packaging category is shown against each organicperoxide. The types of packaging covered by each packaging category are setout in Part II.The packages recommended for technically pure substancesshould be used where suitable for organic peroxides which have been phleg-matised,wetted or dissolved in a solvent unless the table in Part I indicatesotherwise. It should be noted that certain mixtures,of those substances followedby an asterisk(\")in Part I,are subject to the provisions of Regulation 11 in theOrganic Peroxides(Conveyance by Road)Regulations 1973 and the OrganicPeroxides(Conveyance by Road)Rules(Northern Ireland)1974 and are notcovered by this code;nor does the code cover the following substances whichmay be carried by road only when packaged in accordance with Regulation 11whether technically pure, phlegmatised, wetted or dissolved in a solvent: \nDibenzyl perdicarbonate \n2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-bis(tertbutylperoxy)hexyne-3 \n2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-dihydroperoxy hexaneDi-n-propyl perdicarbonate \n3,3,6,6,9,9-Hexamethyl-1,2,4,5-tetroxonane \n# ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF PACKAGING\n\n3.In any case where a container is required to be made of fibre-board,awooden or metal container may be used as an alternative and in any case wherea container is required to be made of wood,a metal container may be used asan alternative;except that metal containers should not be used as an alternativewhere risk of explosion would be increased or created. \n4.There may be occasions when mixtures of organic peroxides(other thanthose for which specific provision is made)are required to be conveyed andwhere different packaging categories are shown in the code against the organicperoxides contained in the mixture. In such cases the packaging to be usedshould be that which is most appropriate to the hazards presented by themixture, particularly where the properties of the mixture may present hazards \ngreater than those of any of the individual constituents. \n5.Containers complying with the provisions of the International Air TransportAssociation(IATA)Regulations relating to the Carriage of Restricted Articlesby Air may be accepted as satisfactory alternatives to the packaging recom-mended in this Code. \n# DEFINITIONS\n\n6.'Effectively closed'means a liquid-tight closure.Where a venting device isprovided, this should be such as not to allow the escape of liquid under normalconditions of transport. \n'Liner'means a single separate flexible receptacle designed to fit snugly insideand outer receptacle to
