Before moving on to step two write your prediction of what you think will happen when you place m&ms in the water. \nPlace the m&m candies into the water \"M\" side up. \nMOLECULES CLOSER TOGETHER MOLECULES MORE SPREAD OUT \nSTEP \n3 \nNow it's time to wait for the \"m\" to float! It could take up to 10 minutes so be patient . . . When your \"m\" floats to the top, think about density. If the \"m\" floats, is it more dense or less dense? \nDid you know that the \"m\" on m&ms is actually made from edible paper, meaning paper you can eat?! \nThe candy coating around the chocolate is water soluble, meaning it dissolves in water. The \"m\" takes more time to dissolve, which is why the water is colored from the soluble candy coating and the \"m\" is floating on top. \nm \nThe \"m\" is less dense! \nNow, answer the questions below to show off what you learned! \n1. What did you learn from this experiment? \n2. What do you think would happened if you used a Skittle instead of an m&m? \nSHARPIE PEN COLOR SCIENCE \nMATERIALS: \n• Plastic Cup \n• Rubber Band \n• Isopropyl Alcohol \n• Sharpies in Various Colors \n• Piece of Cotton Fabric \n• Dropper Bottle \nPROCEDURE: \n1. Place the plastic cup inside the middle of the fabric. Position the opening of the cup directly under the section of fabric that you want to decorate. Stretch the rubber band over the fabric and the cup to secure the fabric in place. \n2. Place dots or circles of ink from one marker in a circle pattern about the size of a quarter in the center of the stretched out fabric. If you like, use another color marker to fill in spaces inbetween the first dots. There should be a quarter-sized circle of dots in the middle of the plastic cup opening when you are finished. \n3. Slowly squeeze approximately 20 drops of rubbing alcohol into the center of the circle of dots. DO NOT flood the design area with rubbing alcohol. The key is to drip the rubbing alcohol slowly in the center of the design and allow the molecules of ink to spread outward from the center. \n4. Apply as much or as little rubbing alcohol as desired, but do not let the pattern spread beyond the edges of the cup. Allow the developed design to dry for three to five minutes before moving on to a new area of the fabric. \n5. It is important to heat set the colors by placing the fabric in the laundry dryer for approximately 15 minutes. \nHOW IT WORKS: \nThis is really a lesson in the concepts of solubility, color mixing, and the movement of molecules. The Sharpie markers contain permanent ink, which will not wash away with water. Permanent ink is hydrophobic, meaning it is not soluble in water. However, the molecules of ink are soluble in another solvent called rubbing alcohol","cbCaiqGGYKYbUkQX","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqGGYKYbUkQX","pdf",5989336,1,24,"English","en",105,"# FITNESS FUN\n## 100 Second Workout Challenge\n## Sea Life Calm Down\n## At Home Fitness Challenges\n# BE A LITERACY LEADER\n## Present Simple Tense Stormtrooper Activity\n## May Daily Writing Prompts\n# STAY-AT-HOME STEAM\n## Floating M&M Experiment\n## Sharpie Pen Color Science\n## Penny Raft Engineering\n# CHARACTER COUNTS\n## Sound Scan\n## The Feel Wheel\n## Dealing with Disappointment\n# BE A PUZZLE PRO\n## Sudoku-Style Math Puzzle\n## Cinco de Mayo Word Search\n## Star Wars Maze\n# AMAZING ARTISTRY\n## How to Draw BB-8\n## Coloring Pages\n## D.
