It provides readers with an understanding of how these lawsuits have shaped approaches to mitigation and adaptation and have been used to try to force and to block regulation. There is a particular emphasis on lawsuits in the United States and Australia, the two jurisdictions that have had the most climate change litigation in the world, and the lessons supply broader insights into the role of courts in addressing climate change.  \nBoth authors are internationally recognized experts on climate change law. jacqueline peel is a professor of law at the Melbourne Law School, Australia. Her teaching and research interests lie in the areas of environmental law (domestic and international), risk regulation and the role of science, and climate change law.  \nhari m. osofsky is a professor of law and the 2014–15 Julius E. Davis Chair in Law at the University of Minnesota, where she is also faculty director of the Energy Transition Lab and director of the Joint Degree Program in Law, Science, and Technology. Her research focuses on energy transition and climate change.  \ncambridge studies in international and comparative law  \nEstablished in 1946, this series produces high-quality scholarship in the fields of public and private international law and comparative law. Although these are distinct legal subdisciplines, developments since 1946 confirm their interrelations.  \nComparative law is increasingly used as a tool in the making of law at national, regional, and international levels. Private international law is now often affected by international conventions, and the issues faced by classical conflict rules are frequently dealt with by substantive harmonization of law under international auspices. Mixed international arbitrations, especially those involving state economic activity, raise mixed questions of public and private international law, while in many fields (such asthe protection of human rights and democratic standards, investment guarantees, and international criminal law), international and national systems interact. National constitutional arrangements relating to “foreign affairs,” and to the implementation of international norms, are a focus of attention.  \nThe series welcomes works ofa theoretical or interdisciplinary character and those focusing on the new approaches to international or comparative law or conflicts oflaw.
