It is a College Level Entrance Placement exam administered by the College Board (SAT, ACT) that allows you to earn up to 30 college credits that will transfer to over 2900 colleges—including Ave Maria, Benedictine, Franciscan, Virginia Tech, etc. (Christendom will accept CLEP language tests.) These credits shorten your time in college by up to one year! (and your total costs, too) .  \nHow much does it cost, where can you take a CLEP, and how often can you take them?  \n• Exams cost only $95 (remotely proctored test cost is $125)  \n• CLEP exams are administered year-round on a flexible schedule: at a testing center or remotely at home.  \n• You can take the same CLEP test multiple times, but no more than once every 3 months.  \nWhen can you take a CLEP test?  \nAnyone over the age of 13 is eligible.  \nYou can take a CLEP test while you are in college as long as you have not taken that course in college.  \nWhat can you take a CLEP test in?  \nSpanish I and II, French, German, British Lit, American History, Composition, American Govt., Chemistry, American Lit, College Mathematics, College Algebra, etc. (There are 34 CLEP tests.)  \nHow do I go about finding out what CLEP tests you should take?  \n1) You make a list of where you may want to go to college.  \n2) You go online to the College Board website to see if each college accepts CLEPs.  \n3) You go to the college website and find the list of which CLEP tests they accept.  \n4) You contact the Admissions department for 2 things:  \n• your list of required courses for your degree.  \n• a list that matches CLEP courses to required first and second year courses in your major.  \n5) Keep in mind that colleges have a limit of credits (usually 30) that can transfer.  \nWhat are the chances of my passing a CLEP test?  \nIf you are an A, A-, or B+ student, your chances are excellent. If you are a hardworking B, B-or C+ student you can pass a CLEP if you prepare more extensively.  \n***Seton students have been successful in Spanish I and II, British Lit, and American History CLEPs.  \nHow Do I prepare for CLEP tests?  \n• Use Library Online Databases: 32 practice tests available at Gale: Peterson Test Prep—Improve Your Score, College Level, CLEP Test Prep  \n• Use online study guides and resources at [https://clep.collegeboard.org/prepare-for-an-exam](https://clep.collegeboard.org/prepare-for-an-exam)  \n• Watch movies and listen to them in Spanish or French to prep for a language exam.  \nCLEP versus AP  \nAP is used mainly to get admission to a highly selective college that accepts less than 20% of applicants. It ranks you among other high school seniors.  \nAP tests are harder than CLEPs.  \nThe difficulty level of CLEPs is based on the difficulty level of an average 100 level college course.  \nCLEP advantages:  \n• CLEP tests reward lower scores. For all first-year courses, Ave Maria requires that your minimum score to receive credit be a 50/80 which is a 63% . Steubenville requires 55/80—a 69% .  \n• Reduce the overall cost of attaining a college degree by spending less than $140 on a test that will  \ntransfer in as a 3 or 4 credit class. Community colleges charge about $700 tuition per course while private colleges charge about $3000 tuition—or more--per course (Currently both Steubenville and Ave Maria allow 30 total CLEP transfer credits which can cut your college costs by over $42,000—an entire year’s costs for tuition + room and board!  \n• Reduces total loan amounts. The max amount of loans you should take out should be roughly equal to your first-year salary.  \nTwo Ways to Take CLEP tests  \n• Local Test Centers: Northern Virginia Community College in Woodbridge, Global Institute of  \nTechnology in Fairfax.
