I’m 39 years old and a single mother of three amazing children. My college career has taken a “non-traditional” route in that I did not choose to go to college immediately following high school. Instead I went to work, took some college classes at night, got married, had children and stayed at home raising them for 10 years – and then decided to finish my college experience. I was well on my way to completing the prerequisites for the nursing program when my youngest child was diagnosed with cancer. I took a year off from school to help him (and the rest of my family) through that experience. I am happy to say he is happy and healthy now! When I came back, I finished up the prerequisites and was accepted into the nursing program. Here I am in my fifth quarter! I’ll graduate in December 2007. \nWhy did you choose to return to learn: \nI grew up here in Vancouver and choosing Clark was the easiest part of my decision to begin my college career. As the mother of three children, convenience, flexibility, and cost were all important factors in my decision. I did some checking in the community and discovered what a well respected reputation Clark has, and specifically their nursing program (my chosen area of interest). The most valuable \n“My advice to new adult learners coming to Clark is to embrace the college experience. Get involved, makefriends and live this experience rather than trying tofit college around the rest of your life. You won’t regret it and you’ll get so much more out of your college experience.” – Marjorie Schilling \nexperience I have had at Clark has been the relationships I’ve made here. It’s a great feeling to pursue your career goals alongside others who share the same dream. The sense of camaraderie is amazing and I’ve made friends I’ll have for a lifetime. \nstudent \nsp t light \nClark College Nursing Fact: \n80 Clark College nursing students who graduated between October 2005 & March 2006 showed a 100% pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
