Humanism and renewed interest in ancient Greece and ancient Rome inspired writers, architects, musicians, and artists to emerge from the Middle Ages into a period of“rebirth.” \nThe expansion of lucrative trade and an emerging banking industry gave rise to a powerful and wealthy merchant class in Italian city-states such as Florence and Venice. These developments allowed individuals and families to patronize the arts as never before. The Catholic Church played a significant role as well in elevating the status of artists. \nWhile born in Italy, Renaissance ideas ultimately spread. In time, they transformed the culture of Western and Northern Europe. \nINTRODUCTION 1 \nWhat Students Should Already Know \nStudents in Core Knowledge schools should be familiar with: Grade 2 \nAncient Greece \n• geography: Mediterranean Sea, Aegean Sea, Crete \n• Sparta \n• Persian Wars: Marathon and Thermopylae \n• Athens as a city-state: the beginnings of democracy \n• Olympic ga","cbCaiaqfu5b2XQ8E","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiaqfu5b2XQ8E","pdf",9826785,150,"English","# Introduction\n## About this unit\n## What Students Should Already Know\n## The Renaissance Sample Pacing Guide\n# Chapter 1 A New Dawn\n# Chapter 2 From Artisan to Artist\n# Chapter 3 The Cradle of the Renaissance\n# Chapter 4 Rome and the Renaissance Popes\n# Chapter 5 Venice: Jewel of the Adriatic\n# Chapter 6 Leonardo da Vinci\n# Chapter 7 Michelangelo\n# Chapter 8 Two “How-to” Men\n# Chapter 9 The Renaissance in Northern Europe\n# Teacher Resources","[{\"question\":\"What is the main idea of Unit 4 “The Renaissance”?\",\"answer\":\"The Renaissance is presented as a period of great artistic and literary achievement that began in Italy, with humanism and renewed interest in ancient Greece and Rome influencing writers, architects, musicians, and artists.\"},{\"question\":\"When does the Renaissance begin and how long does it last according to the unit overview?\",\"answer\":\"It is described as beginning in the 1300s and lasting into the late 1600s.\"},{\"question\":\"What prerequisite knowledge does the teacher guide list for students before starting the unit?\",\"answer\":\"It outlines what students should already know from Core Knowledge schools, including key geography concepts and major ideas from Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome across Grades 2 to 4.\"}]","CKHG_G5_U4_The-Renaissance - Teacher Guide | PDF",1790581586,231]
