It also records the lecture program, including Mandarin and interpreted presentations, culminating in the featured address on chrysanthemums in China.","Three-Day Chrysanthemum Show at Garden  \nTHE chrysanthemum show and program at the New York BotanicalIGarden October 26-28 brought nearly 10,000 visitors to the MuseumBuilding to see the competitive exhibits and an additional 20,000 or moreto enjoy the Garden's outdoor displays of hardy flowers.This was thesecond annual show of the Eastern State Chrysanthemum Society,whichhad been organized the year before with Dr.E.L.Scott of Bogota,NewJersey,as president.  \nAmong the 241 entries for the show,58 growers,mostly amateurs,took partin the competitive exhibits.First prizeamong the large displays went to theGarden Club of Mamaroneck,N.Y,Mrs.John Germaine,chairman,for achrysanthemum garden composed ofplants grown outdoors by members.Thisgarden was also awarded the Scott trophyoffered for the best exhibit in the show.The Marshall Ficld estate of Huntington,Long Island,took second prize with anautumn scene arranged by George H.Gillies,head gardener.Third place wasawarded to a bank of nearly 50 differentkinds of hardy chrysanthemums grownby veterans of Fort Totten_Military Hos-pital at Whitestone,Long Island,as partof the reconditioning program.  WithP.J.McKenna as horticulturist incharge,the work was directed by theNorth Shore Flower Auxiliary under theauspices of the Gray Ladies of the RedCross.  \nHonorable mention was given to ademonstration of the classification otchrysanthemums by the type of bloomstaged by Dr.and Mrs.E.L.Scott.Aspecial award was presented to Totty's,commercial growers of Madison,NewJersey,for a table of cut blooms,andanother to the Garden Club of Bogota,Mrs.Clyde Boyles,president,for a largearrangement of chrysanthemums in aweathered log.  \nProminent among the many flower ar-  \nChrysanthemum fanciers from every nearby state attended the show,and one couple.Mr.and Mrs.E.C.Lehman,came from Faribault,Minnesota,for the occasion.From half a dozen other distant states andfrom Canada came other visitors,some of whom were in New York forthe Navy Day celebration.  \nExhibition flowers also arrived from far away.Lucius Bates of Sacra-mento,California,and the Chrysanthemum Society of Portland,Oregon,Julien Coblentz,secretary,sent displays of cut flowers by air express.  \nrangements submitted for competitionwere six lighted niches in the rotunda.Mrs.John Spader of Mamaroneck wonthe first prize here and Mrs.HaroldBrooks of Westfield,New Jersey,second.Other exhibitors were Mrs.Loren R.Dodson,Larchmont,N.Y..third prize;Mrs.C.E.Cyphers,Clifton,N.J.,honorable mention;Mrs.Charles Hoff-man,Scarsdale,N.Y,and Mrs.William  \nH.Hardifer,Passaic,N.J.Many otherchrysanthemum arrangenents were onview,as well as many exhibits of cutblooms in different classes.Leading prizewinners in number of awards were Mrs.  \nJ.Willard Roberts of Mamaroneck;Marie Leary of Greenwich,Conn.,Mrs.George E.Andrews of_White Plains,  \nN.Y.;E.L.Scott of Bogota,N.J.;Omar Coles of Magnolia,N.J.;Mrs.  \nH.E.Kinkaid,Mamaroneck;Paul F.Frese,White Plains,and Fred Shumaker,Larchmont,N.Y.  \nJudgcs for the competitive exhibitswere Mrs.George Sand,Esther GraysonRockwell,F.F.Rockwell,Arthur Her-rington,T.A.Weston.George Cowe,Anthony Sailer,and William Seymour.Included on the committees who workedon the show were Mrs.Clifford B.Curtis,Mrs.J.Willard Roberts,Dr.and Mrs.  \nE.L.Scott,Milton Cornell,Prof.C.H.Conners,Ernest Chabot,Mrs.RobertKearfott.James S.Jack,T.A.Weston,and T.H.Everett.  \nTwo educational exhibits attracted  \nmuch attention.
