Their holiday plans for the Berkshires are reshaped by family pressure to stay with cousin Aggie and John before moving to the Mountain Aire near the ski resort. It was a sentimental choice for a midday meal as it was the place where much of the courting of Amanda Burnside and the dashing police detective had taken place. Mr. Russo, the proprietor, thought it appropriate to take ownership in having facilitated the relationship with his excellent cuisine although that was only a small part of its evolution. \nIt had been a busy week for Amanda, a private investigator working mostly with her father ’s law firm, as well as for Brendan, supervisor of detectivesin the Boston Police Department, and for Louisa, a designer in the prestigious Monsieur Josef Dress Salon. Only Rob, owner of the Oasis nightclub, was truly taking a day off work as they finalized their plans for aski holiday in the Berkshires, funded by a reward from Amanda’s last case. \n“Our cousin Aggie and her husband, John, are insistent that we stay with them. I’m reluctant to decline so as not to hurt their feelings,” Amanda began.“They are such lovely people.” \n“I bet you say that about all our family members,” Louisa said with a smile.“I haven’t been there, but I got the impression their home was small. And we agreed that we would stay at the Mountain Aire, remember? Aggie said it was the place to stay, not just by reputation, but because it’s so close to the ski resort.” \n“Their home is not small. There’s room for us all. I just don’t want to create more work for them. On the other hand, her feelings might be hurt if we don’t stay.” \n“Let’s add one more room to the reservation at the hotel so they’ll be therewith us,” Rob suggested. “It will also be a break from cooking and entertaining us.” \nAmanda hesitated.“How about this compromise. We stay tomorrow night with them. And then we all go to the Mountain Aire for the rest of the trip? I know Aggie is anxious for us all to see their house. After John being a bachelor, she has spiffed up the place with curtains and cushions, all the things a single man doesn’t think about.” \n“I hope you’re not including my place in your broad assessment,” Brendan said, his blue eyes twinkling. \n“You must admit it’s rather sparse.” \n“It’s basic. It’s simple. It suits my needs. After we get married next year, you can spruce it up any way you like. Just not too many ruffles and bows.” \n“I certainly hope not,” Louisa said.“For those of you who have been asleep this past decade, the trend is a streamlined look: glass, steel, bold. Art Deco. In case you hadn’t noticed, we’ve been moving away from the fussy, frilly look.” \nAmanda bowed her head to what she considered her younger sister ’s superior sense of design and fashion and continued,“I’m sure Aggie will want to show off her newly acquired domestic skills.” \n“Do you mean that she already has planned a big meal? And the rooms are already made up?” Brendan asked. \n“Exactly. She called yesterday and told me. We don’t want to show her up by zooming off to a fancy hotel instead. That way, we’ll have done our family duty as well as providing them with a respite. Being a doctor in rural West Adams with another office in Pittsfield makes for a busy life for the both of them.” \n“Done. I’ll call the hotel as soon as we’ve finished lunch,” Rob offered. \n“Thank you so much,”Amanda said. \nMr. Russo came to the table with a ","cbCaimZjk18x07kp","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimZjk18x07kp","pdf",1717415,182,"English","en",105,"# Chapter 1\n## Brunch at Catalano’s in Boston’s North End\n## Planning the Berkshires holiday trip\n## Skiing worries and holiday preparations","[{\"question\":\"Who is Amanda Burnside, and why are they discussing the holiday trip at lunch?\",\"answer\":\"Amanda Burnside is a private investigator.
