art.\"Featuringmore than 2,000 artists, every sort of subjectmatter or lack of matter was treated withinthe confines of portable walls, with the ex-ception of religious art. \nAs far as we could see, there were only three artists who dealtwith religious imagery.Obviously, religious imagery in commercialgalleries is as popular as poison ivy. \nIn the area of literature, the works of gifted writers dealing withspirituality are published by mainstream publishers. There are alsopublishers that cater to the evangelical market who have worked hardto create a special niche. In the latter case, author Richard Terrelldoesn't discount the value of their world view, but he does call intoquestion the quality of fiction writing and character development(p.7).We also look at guilt and sin in The Scarlet Letter by NathanielHawthorne, reaffirming our commitment to portraying what is newin the arts and building on the old (p.18). \nIn the area of the visual arts,we have selected the work ofWarren Brown Prindle and his use of metaphor and juxtaposition \nof images(p.4),and the incor-poration of words in the work ofJonathan Blocher(p.47). \nFinally,we close by introduc-ing you to one of our volunteers. As you know,Christianity and theArts is staffed entirely by volun-teers.Without any grant or foun-dation assistance,we simplycouldn't exist without people suchas Collenane Cosey, who helps tolabel the magazines. \nShe is writing a book abouther experiences as a novice nunin Chicago in the 1920s.Wethought you might be particularlyinterested in the time Cosey metChicago's most
