The room is warm and lived in. A fire is burning. One door, at the back and left of the room, leads to a bedroom. A window, left, looks up to the street. To the right is another door which leads to a kitchen, which is seen. At rear of stage are the stairs leading up into the street. \nSarah Kahn is in the kitchen washing up, humming to herself. She is a small, fiery woman, aged thirty-seven, Jewish, and of European origin. Her movements indicate great energy and vitality. She is a very warm person. Harry Kahn, her husband, comes down the stairs, walks past her and into the front room. He is thirty-five and also a European Jew. He is dark, slight, rather pleasant looking, and the antithesis of Sarah. He is amiable but weak. From outside we hear a band playing a revolutionary song. \nSarah (from the kitchen) You took the children to Lottie’s? \nHarry (taking up book to read) I took them. \nSarah They didn’t mind? \nHarry No, they didn’t mind.","cbCaioJMzOQADNfO","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaioJMzOQADNfO","pdf",640397,110,"English","# Contents\n## Cover\n## Title Page\n## A Note on the Staging\n## Cast List\n## Characters\n## Act One\n## Act Two\n## Act Three\n## Author Biography\n## Imprint\n## The original version of Chicken Soup with Barley set Act One in an attic\n## Timeline\n## Act One\n### Scene One\n### Scene Two\n## The Solo Game","[{\"question\":\"What staging change does the note on the staging describe?\",\"answer\":\"The note explains that, for the Royal Court revival, Act One uses the original attic setting instead of the basement setting described in the published text.\"},{\"question\":\"Where and when was the play first performed?\",\"answer\":\"It was first performed at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry on 7 July 1958.\"},{\"question\":\"What time period does Act One, Scene One cover?\",\"answer\":\"Act One, Scene One is set on 4 October 1936, in the basement of the Kahns’ house in the East End of London.\"}]","Chicken Soup with Barley - play - stages and cast timeline | PDF",1790375706,169]
