Afterwards, put something dry on the floor such as dry banana leaves, the husks of maize, or coarse sawdust. The provision of clean water for drinking is essential, and it helps the chickens to live better, more healthy lives.  \nFowl Pest  \nThis sickness is caused by a virus and, when the chickens contract this disease, there is no remedy for it. All the chickens become infected with it, and nearly all will die.  \nWhat are the symptoms of this sickness?  \nThe symptoms presented for this sickness are similar to those of bronchitis, catarrh and inflammation of the trachea.  \nThese are:  \nThe chickens sneeze, snuffle, snore and have difficulty with breathing. They become weak and the plumage stands up. After a few days they present symptoms of a nervous character which consist of violently twisting the neck and the head, turning it first to the front and then putting it between the feet, or turning it backwards until it is resting on the shoulders.  \nThe chickens walk around in circles or walk unsteadily.  \nThe laying chickens have problems of a respiratory nature, and within a few days cease to lay eggs, or lay only eggs with soft shells or without a shell at all. They lose their appetite, but have an excessive thirst.  \nWhat can be done to stop fowl pest affecting your chickens?  \nThe disease is passed from chicken to chicken, and also indirectly by humans.
