I begin again because the matter at hand requires a record, and because if I do not return, someone should know where I have been and what I have done. We arrived in Providence two nights ago. Bishop Harkins drove us himself. Alice endured the journey with the polite stillness she used to maintain during shellfire. Catherine wept for most of it. I did not ask her why. I did not need to. She had not been a vampire so long as I have been to become accustomed to death. She was mourning Ruth, Rebecca, Tomas, and the rest. I have long since forgotten how to mourn.  \nTonight is my last in this house. There is a cargo vessel in New York harbour whose manifest, by arrangements made before the war, lists me as acrate of agricultural machinery bound for Liverpool. The lie must become the truth before he reaches for it.  \nThe only person who can make it the truth is the man whose name I invoked, whom I have not seen in over two centuries, and whom most of the Order believes long dead.
