It describes how to create a countertop plan, what must be shown (walls, cabinet outlines, equipment clearances, symbols, dimensions, and notes), and how counter edge profiles clarify design, overhang, drilling locations, and penetrations. It also covers cabinet cross-sections with required graphic elements, section cut markers, scales, annotation practices, and the purpose and typical content of detailed drawings for cabinet assemblies.",{"@graph":14,"@context":72},[15,34,55],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/research-report/","Research & Report",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/chapter-13-specialty-drawings-and-details/648729/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/chapter-13-specialty-drawings-and-details/648729.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"MrHarris58","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-25","2026-10-23",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":30},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",{"@type":56,"mainEntity":57},"FAQPage",[58,64,68],{"name":59,"@type":60,"acceptedAnswer":61},"What purpose does a countertop plan serve in kitchen and bath documentation?","Question",{"text":62,"@type":63},"A countertop plan clarifies installation or fabrication for related trades, especially when projects involve multiple counter materials or built-up edge treatments. A more detailed illustration employing specialist graphic techniques is used to properly explain these kitchen and bathroom elements. \nCOUNTERTOP PLAN \nA separate countertop plan is helpful to illustrate the installation or fabrication to the allied tradesperson, particularly in complex projects, such as those that combine various counter materials or built-up edge treatments. A countertop plan shows only the walls of the space, the outline of the cabinets, fixtures and equipment, applicable notes, details, and dimensions. \nFigure 13.1 A Drawing for a Countertop Plan. Counter depth can be affected by an inset, lipped, or full overlay door and must be noted on the drawing. \nThe typical depth of kitchen counters is between 25 1/2″ (648 mm) and 25 3/4\" (654 mm) . The standard depth of bathroom counters is 22 1/2\" (572 mm) . This may vary depending on the design. The standard depth of kitchen counters is between 25 1/2″ (648 mm) and 25 3/4\" (654 mm) . The standard depth of bathroom counters is 22 1/2\" (572 mm) . \nDraw a detail of the counter edge profile to clarify the counter design and overhang relative to the face of the cabinets. A detailed profile of the counter edge treatment is often provided at a larger scale to clearly illustrate the counter design and its overhang relative to the face of the cabinet or to indicate inset doors. It provides dimensions and spacing of cooktop, sink and faucet drillings as well as other penetrations such as air-actuated disposal switches, grommets and counter-mounted, pop-up outlets. \nFigure 13.2 Counter detail drawings. Use notes on the drawing to explain cutouts, corner treatments, edge treatments, depth changes, and other important details specific to the counter installation. \nDrawing Scale \nAll kitchen and bath plans are to be drafted to a scale of 1/2\" = 1’-0” ( 1:25) . The counter detail drawing should be drafted to a scale of 3” = 1’-0” ( 1:4) . \nThe scale of the drawing is to be noted in two locations: \n1. On the Drawing Title Marker, and \n2. Within the Title Block \nDimensioning \nThere may be up to three dimension lines for each counter section: \nDimension string \\#1 Illustrates the center of any cutouts, such as those for sinks and cooktops. \nDimension string \\#2 Illustrates the overall counter length. \nDimension Line \\#3 Indicates the overall available wall length. \nPage 253 \n© COPYRIGHT 2023 National Kitchen & Bath Association \nFigure 13.4 A Countertop Plan.
