Interior finishes are selected by the kitchen & bath designer during design development of a project in order to obtain the client’s approval before preparing the construction drawings. Interior finishes include a variety of finishes and materials that are attached to the building's structural elements such as floors, walls, and ceilings and includes applied finishes like wallpaper, paint, moulding and millwork. \nOnce the interior finish selections have been made, there are a variety of methods to communicate what will be required for a kitchen and bath project. Kitchens and baths have many finishes and details that need to be communicated for complex finish configurations, such as an inlay floor detail, a custom wall tile pattern, or even window treatments. A finish plan shows the finishes applied to the surfaces with a corresponding legend and schedule. While a finish plan and schedule may not be a typical plan for the kitchen and bath designer to prepare in a set of construction drawings, there may be some project scenarios that contain a high level of detail and complexity that would require this additional plan. \nDRAWING AND PRESENTATION STANDARDS \nIn more complex kitchen and bath design projects where there is more than one type of finish on each wall surface, or perhaps where there may be more complex finish configurations, such as a tile design detail on a floor or site-built shower pan, a finish plan is an appropriate drawing that may be accompanied by a finish schedule. A finish plan shows the finish material to be applied to wall and flooring surfaces graphically with a corresponding legend. \nThe advantage to the dedicated finish plan is that more detailed information can be given to contractors and building trade professionals for locations of specific finish and surface treatments. A finish plan helps to eliminate questions and mistakes that might arise if only a finish schedule or written specifications alone were used. While a benefit to most kitchen and bath designers, the installation preparations and instructions are not included on the finish plan but prepared in written specifications. The specification booklet is covered in a subsequent chapter. \nPage 190 \n© COPYRIGHT 2023 National Kitchen & Bath Association \nFigure 10.1 A typical finish plan. Courtesy of Corey Klassen, CMKBD NCIDQ. \nA finish plan is prepared in a similar format to the kitchen and bath floor plan except cabinet codes, fixture and equipment designations, and dimensions are not included. A finish plan may be a hybrid of both finishes and acountertop plan (described below) . Finish plans will contain finish plan symbols with lines (wall finish lines) that illustrate the extent and location of each finish, as shown in Figure 10.1. When the wall finish lines are drawn, door and window openings are generally ignored so that the designer may communicate the applicable finish \nPage 191 \n© COPYRIGHT 2023 National Kitchen & Bath Association \nabove the opening. Finishes for door leaves and casings and window casings are described on the construction plan rather than adding conflicting information on a finish plan. \nIf a complex floor pattern is to be installed, it is best practice to prepare a separate floor pattern detail drawing for added clarity. For example, a complex hardwood flooring pattern may conflict or otherwise be too difficult to clearly illustrate and would be provided in a separate hardwood flooring detail plan. \nILLUSTRATING PLAN ELEMENTS \nThe advantage of preparing a finish plan is to","cbCaiqdbDG4eafX7","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqdbDG4eafX7","pdf",1494289,12,"English","# Finish Plan and Finish Schedules\n## Purpose and role in kitchen & bath design\n## Drawing and presentation standards\n## Illustrating plan elements\n### Illustrating finishes on plan\n### Marking finishes on plan","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of a finish plan in kitchen and bath projects?\",\"answer\":\"A finish plan communicates the location and installation requirements of room finishes and related materials for the planned designed space.
