Please do not read this to the students. This is a description for teachers, about the big ideas and key understanding that students should take away after completing this task.\nBig Ideas and Key Understandings\nPeople who remain positive through adversity will be rewarded.\nSynopsis\nCendrillon is a Caribbean Cinderella story told from the perspective of the godmother (Nannin). Cendrillon is treated as a servant by her step-mother and half-sister. Nannin uses a magic wand to ready Cendrillon for a ball, where Cendrillon meets a rich man’s son, Paul. Paul falls in love with Cendrillon and finds her when she is lost to him.\nRead entire main selection text, keeping in mind the Big Ideas and Key Understandings.\nRe-read the main selection text while noting the stopping points for the Text Dependent Questions and teaching Vocabulary.\nDuring Teaching\nStudents read the entire main selection text independently.\nTeacher reads the main selection text aloud with students following along. (Depending on how complex the text is and the amount of support needed by students, the teacher may choose to reverse the order of steps 1 and 2.)\nStudents and teacher re-read the text while stopping to respond to and discuss the questions and returning to the text. A variety of methods can be used to structure the reading and discussion (i.e.: whole class discussion, think-pair-share, independent written response, group work, etc.)\nText Dependent Questions\nText Under Consideration\nText Dependent Questions\nAnswers\npg. 331\nWhat details does the author provide about how Ninnin’s magic wand works and how it should be used?\nYou tap it. Its magic lasts only a short time. It can only be used to help someone you love.\npgs. 332-336\nReread pages 332-336. Using specific details and quotes from the text, describe Cendrillon’s life.\nCendrillon’s life was difficult because:\n*her hands were blistered and red (pg. 332)\n*she worked like a serving-girl (pg. 333)\n*she slept on straw pallet (pg. 335)\n*she ate a handful of flour and codfish tails (pg. 335)\n*nothing was easy for her at home (pg. 335)\n*she did the family’s laundry (pg. 335)\n*Madame called her lazy (pg. 335)\n*Madame and Vitaline screamed at her (pg. 336)\npg. 335\nCompare and contrast Cendrillon’s normal attitude at the river with her attitude on the morning of the ball.\nNormally, “her smile was like sunshine.” Cendrillon talked and laughed with Ninnin’. Cendrillon seemed happy. But, the morning of the ball, she came “sad-faced to the river. No singing or joking would make her smile.”\npgs. 332-333, 335-336\nReread pages 332-335. On page 335, Madame describes Cendrillon as lazy. What evidence shows Cendrillon is actually hard working?\nHer hands were blistered and red. (pg.332)\n“My father’s wife works me like a serving-girl.” (pg.333)\nCendrillon would come to the river each morning to do the family’s laundry. (pg.335)\nCendrillon was expected to find Madame’s shoulder-scarf and comb Vitaline’s hair. (pg.336)\npg. 339\nembroidered\nIf something is embroidered, then it is made or decorated with needlework. How does knowing the meaning of the word embroidered help you understand or infer other words on page 339 like elegant, gown, silk, and gilded?\nKnowing that the slippers are embroidered, rather than plain, implies fancier clothing. If students know “embroidered,” they should also infer that the elegant, gown, silk, and gilded are fancy. Other details that imply elegance are the gold pin, gold beads, and bracelets.\npg. 339\nWhat does Ninnin mean when she says, “It was enough to hurt my eyes to look at my darling”?\nCendrillon was so beautiful. Her appearance was dazzling and overwhelming to the senses.\npg. 343\nReread p","cbCaihGBfc2y3hOy","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihGBfc2y3hOy","doc",79872,12,"English","# Teacher Instructions\n# Big Ideas and Key Understandings\n# Synopsis\n# During Teaching\n# Text Dependent Questions\n## Text Under Consideration\n## Answers and Page-Based Evidence\n# Vocabulary","[{\"question\":\"What Big Idea guides the lesson on Cendrillon?\",\"answer\":\"People who remain positive through adversity will be rewarded.
