I am pleased to be chairing such a fine group, and helping Peter and all the staff guide our libraries through another memorable year. We area rather remarkable institution, having risen up over 40 years ago through the efforts of volunteers, to provide learning and joy to our ever-growing unincorporated community.
We are right behind the Hillsboro and Beaverton Libraries when it comes to strength, numbers and popular use! Just think how many children have their first memories of books and stories and mental adventures with us! And then there are all the grownups who find support for their minds and hearts and even their pocketbooks with our resources.
Thanks to all of you who
make this possible – all those volunteer hours (over 31,000!), all those financial donations (over $160,000!), all that shopping at Second Edition (keep it up!) . And have you checked out the book sale shelves lately? Now thereis a bonanza waiting for you, and at such good prices. Please remember us when you have books that don’t fit your own needs anymore – we know how to put them to best use.
see President’s Corner on page 2
Happy New Year
The beginning of a new year is a great time to start something new or make a resolution for selfimprovement. Whatever your resolution, the library has information to help you. Librarians can help you find diet books, fitness DVDs, or financial planning information. If you would like to learn anew skill, become better informed about current events or learn more about any subject, make the library the first stop on your quest!
Music on the Mezzanine
A Special Valentine’s Day Performance
John Nilsen is a pianist, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, and oneof the Pacific Northwest’s most successful performance and recording artists. Over the past thirty-five years, he has averaged 225 shows a year, performing as a solo pianist, solo guitarist and as a member of his two bands. He has appeared with such luminaries as Jose Feliciano, Jesse Colin Young, Kenny G, and others.
John is a native of the Pacific Northwest, born in Seattle and raised primarily in Portland, where he has been a resident for many years. As a former student of Sunset High School, Cedar Mill holds a special place in his heart.
On Wednesday, February 14, John will deliver a baby grand piano to the Cedar Mill Library and spend an hour in the evening playing love songs for his home town community. This performance is free and open to all ages. The music will begin at 6:30 pm.

| Cedar Mill Community Library Association
CM:12505 NW Cornell Rd., Suite 13 Portland, OR 97229. 503-644-0043
CM@B:15325 NW Central Dr., Suite J-8 Portland, OR 97229. 503-617-7323
Email: [cedarmill@wccls.org](cedarmill@wccls.org)
Website: [library.cedarmill.org](library.cedarmill.org) | | |
| --- | --- | --- |
|
Mon-Fri: 10-8
Sat: 10-5 / Sun: 12-5 | | |
| The CMCLA is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing public library services .
The Cedar Mill and Bethany Libraries are part of the Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) .
Library News
Published six times each year by the CMCLA.
