However, candidates should be reminded that equations in terms of units for a quantity and triangular memory aides will not gain partial credit if the final answer is incorrect.  \nPresentation  \nPoor quality of handwriting continues to be an ongoing issue. It is difficult for examinersto award marks when candidates’ handwriting is illegible. Candidates should be reminded that if they do not want part of their work to be marked, they should clearly indicate this, by putting a line or two through their work. Nor should they write answers outside the space on the question paper. They should use an additional page. Candidates should also use a ruler, where appropriate, for example, to complete ray diagrams or when drawing a best fit line on a graph. Where one response is required to gain a mark, candidates will not gain credit if a correct response is given alongside one or more incorrect responses. This is referred to as listing.  \nGraphs and Units  \nMany candidates gained marks by plotting and drawing graphs. While the advice of using the using the notation  or X, was adopted by many candidates, some still failed to follow the advice. Centres should encourage all candidates to adopt this approach and the labelling of axes on graphs using the solidus notation. Points on graphs or lines on grids should be clearly marked so that they can be identified after the scanning process.  \nPrescribed Practicals  \nPractical work is an integral part of physics which helps to develop candidates’ skills, knowledge, and understanding of physics concepts. Candidates’ performance in Booklet A indicated that they had opportunities to participate in practical work.  \nBooklet B is designed to test candidates’ skills of analysis and interpretation of data. Most candidates performed well and were able to successfully complete tables and to draw and interpret graphs.  \nCCEA GCSE Physics (Summer Series) 2025  \nAssessment Unit 1 Motion, Force, Density and  \nKinetic Theory, Energy, and Atomic and Nuclear Physics  \nFoundation Tier  \nUnit Overview  \nThe entry for this paper was 92 candidates, similar to 2024. The mean score for this unit was 37.5 and the range was 15 to 70. Some scripts were difficult to read. Candidates should be aware that poor/illegible handwriting may mean that they lose marks. Candidates should note the instruction on the examination paper ‘show your working out’. This would ensure the award of partial credit.  \nThe questions were well answered by many candidates, indicating their knowledge, and understanding of the physics concepts assessed.
