EDU. AU \nINTRODUCTION \nWelcome to VCE! \nThose of you reading this Handbook are entering the final years of your secondary education. Great challenges lie ahead. This Handbook is to help you travel through these years productively and successfully. \nPlease read the information carefully. If you plan your study, you' ll keep on top of the expectations regarding submission of work. This will enable you to work at a steady pace and avoid the dreaded last-minute panic. \nIt’s very important that during your VCE years you develop and maintain a close relationship with your teachers, your Year Level Coordinator, the Senior Studies Coordinator, and the Head of Campus. These people will help you make good choices about tertiary courses or post-school employment. They possess the information and the knowledge to help you to make sure that atthe end of Year 12 your plans are viable and realistic. \nYour success in VCE is contingent on your work ethic. Avoid procrastinating! Establish short, medium and long-term goals from the start of the year. Organise study groups with your friends, ask your teachers for assistance if thereis something you don't fully understand, adhere to a realistic work program, and you' ll find the VCE years rewarding and fulfilling. \nPlease feel free to discuss any queries with your Year Level Coordinator, teachers, the Senior Studies coordinator or the Head of Campus. \nPRINCIPAL: Sarita Ryan \n[sarita.ryan@alicemiller.school](sarita.ryan@alicemiller.school) \nHEAD OF CAMPUS: Mark Johnstone \n[mark.johnstone@alicemiller.school](mark.johnstone@alicemiller.school)[ ](mark.johnstone@alicemiller.school)Senior Studies Coordinator: Karyn Lehner [karyn.lehner@alicemiller.school](karyn.lehner@alicemiller.school) \n2 ALICEMILLER.VIC. EDU. AU \n2026 \nGeneral Information about the VCE \nHow is the VCE structured? \nThe VCE is a two-year Certificate for Years 11 and 12. It is made up of Semester ( i.e. half-year) length units of study. \nMost of you will do 22 semester-length units over two years. You can do extra or fewer units or take more time to complete the program. \nThe minimum number of units which must be satisfactorily completed to gain a VCE is 16. \nTo be eligible for your VCE you must successfully complete three units from the English group, including a Unit 3–4 sequence. \nFurther, if you wish to gain an ATAR score, VTAC requires that you satisfactorily complete both Units 3 and 4 of English or Literature. Some Tertiary institutions require four units of English or Literature including the Unit 3 and 4 sequence to be completed successfully for admission. If you have a tertiary pathway in mind, it is important you keep this in mind. \nYou should select studies that are appropriate to your interests and match your aspirations for tertiary study, training and employment. \nYou can begin most studies at Unit 1, 2 or 3 but not at Unit 4. A Unit is a semester long study ina specific subject. \nUnits are at two levels. \n● Units 1 and 2 level is the equivalent of Year 11. You can choose to do one or both units at this level.
