PROCURATOR-\n\nGOOD NEWS AND BAD \nTeresita Church in Mongilao.Thefire was discovered about nineo'clock.By ten o'clock the churchwas completely gutted. \nDear VIEW-ers: \nThere is good news from Guamand congratulations are in order. \nBut there is also bad news anda serious plea for help. \nAlthough valiant attempts weremade to save at least some of thefurnishings, nothing was salvaged. \nThe good news is that the newCathedral at Agana is finishedand was dedicated on April 20.The Mass of dedication was cele-brated by the Bishop of Guam,Apollinaris Baumgartner,O.F.M.Cap. \nWhen the fire was extinguished, nothing remained of Santa Teresi-ta Church but the facade and partof the walls, and it is doubtfulwhether they can be used in thework of reconstruction. \nTo him belongs the major con-gratulations.He played the great-est role in planning, promotingand designing the new Cathedral. \nTwo other bishops came toGuam for the dedication.BishopVincent I.Kennally,S.J.,VicarApostolic of the Carolines, preached the sermon.Bishop M. \nA.Olano,O.F.M.Cap.,formerBishop of Guam, offered a specialPontifical Mass for some fifteenhundred school children on theday following the dedication. \nIt was a glorious moment in thehistory of Guam. The new DulceNombre de Maria(Sweet Nameof Mary)Cathedral is a marvelousmonument to Catholicism in theMarianas. \nBut there was a cloud over theoccasion. It was especially felt byone parish in the vicariate.Sevenweeks previously the people ofMongilao lost their parish church. \nOn Monday,March 3,a firebroke out in the sacristy of Santa \nSanta Teresita Church was arelatively new structure, built in1950 by the people of Mongilaounder the direction of Father The-ophane Thoma(Capuchin fromHartford,Wisconsin). \nPlans for a new church, ofcourse, are already under way.In-surance will cover 20%of the cost, but the rest will have to comefrom the people of Mongilao andwhoever will help them. \nAnd who will help these peoplewho have just contributed to thebuilding of a cathedral and sud-denly have to rebuild their parishchurch? You,we fervently hope. \nRemember,any offering, nomatter how small, will help.Sendyour contribution directly to me.Mark it:\"For the new Church ofSaint Theresa in Guam.” \nGratefully yours in Christ, \nFather Bruno,O.F.M.Cap.210 West 3lst StreetNew York 1,New York
