No one had heard of Covid-19 or ChatGPT back in 2016. More apposite to this second edition, there is today a heightened polarization and politicization of nearly everything. This has led to extremism, social division, and increased tribalism and anxiety. The addition of Chapter 9 to this second edition is intended to speak to Calvinism’s relation to this reality. In order to make room for this new material, I edited the existing chapters. I also rearranged the chapter order somewhat to make my train of thought clearer.  \nThis book is not an exposition of the doctrines of grace (i.e. TULIP) . It mentions them, of course, but aims to be much broader in scope. It treats major ideas basic to the Calvinist system of thought and life. This second edition benefited enormously from criticisms of the first edition. Particularly helpful were Bristol University students whose vigorous attackson the Calvinist tradition were invaluable. Thanks also to OUP’s Luciana O’Flaherty, Phoebe Aldridge, and Jenny Nugee for their support.  \nI dedicate this new edition to my father, J. Paul Balserak, who passed away on 13 September 2024.
