It describes protecting blisters, applying aloe vera sap or an antibiotic cream, managing pain with paracetamol, and keeping the person hydrated with clean water or juice. It also sets clear safety thresholds and infection warning signs that require a doctor.","Burns-What to do \nEnglish Health \nBurns-What to do \nOriginal story by: Marlene Custer Reference Source for medical information: \n[http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/burns](http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/burns)[ ](http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/burns)Illustrations: Art of Reading \nEnglish \nCopyright © 2017, Marlene Custer \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. She looked up for a second , and suddenly , some of the broth splashed out of the pot onto Amadi 's leg. \n\"Ouuuuch! \" cried Amadi. \nOni hurried over to her friend and saw that the burned area was already beginning to blister. She quickly ran to get cool water and several clean cloths. \nOni dipped a cloth in cool water and layed it over the burn. When the cloth got warm she exchanged it for another. She kept cooling the area for at least ten minutes. \nOni was careful not to break any blisters open. Then she extracted enough sap from an aloe vera leaf to cover the burned area. She carefully covered the wound with a clean , dry cloth. \nAmadi will reapply the aloe vera or apply an antibiotic cream , and cover the area every day until her leg is healed. Her friend also gave her some ibuprofen to relieve the pain. \nOni assured her friend that she would check on her every day to make sure the wound is healing, and that there are no signs of infection. \n\"If the area is not better in a week , we will have the doctor take a look at it,\" she said. \"I am glad the burned area is no larger than seven or eight centimeters , or we would have to seek medical help right away. \" \nFinally , Oni made sure Amadi had plenty of clean water or juice to drink. Keeping hydrated is essential for healing. \nBURNS CAN BE PREVENTED by taking the following precautions: \nKeep candles out of the reach of young children. \nWarn young children to stay away from fire and the cooking area. \nUse caution when pouring hot water for coffee or tea. Make sure the cup and kettle are out of reach of little ones. \nTHE TREATMENT OF BURNS \n1. Run clean , cool water over the burned area for at least ten minutes. Clean cloths dipped in cool water may be layed lightly over the affected area, as well. \n2. Apply the sap from aloe vera onto the burn and cover with a clean cloth. If aloe vera is not available , use an antibiotic cream. \n3. Take paracetamol for pain. \n4. Keep hydrated with juice or clean water. \n5. If burned area is larger than eight centimeters in diameter , or if there are signs of infection , see a doctor or health worker as soon as possible.","cbCaicM4jO6SVloJ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaicM4jO6SVloJ","pdf",495048,1,12,"English","en",105,"# The Treatment of Burns\n## Immediate cooling\n## Aloe vera or antibiotic cream\n## Pain relief and hydration\n## When to see a doctor\n# How to Prevent Burns","[{\"question\":\"What is the first step when someone gets a burn?\",\"answer\":\"Run clean, cool water over the burned area for at least ten minutes, and gently place cool, clean cloths on the area if needed.\"},{\"question\":\"Should blisters be broken during burn treatment?\",\"answer\":\"No. The treatment should avoid breaking any blisters open while cooling and covering the burn.\"},{\"question\":\"When should a doctor or health worker be consulted?\",\"answer\":\"Seek medical help if the burned area is larger than eight centimeters in diameter or if there are signs of infection, or if the area is not better in about a week.\"}]",1784276729,30,{"code":4,"msg":30,"data":31},"ok",{"site_id":24,"language":23,"slug":32,"title":13,"keywords":33,"description":14,"schema_data":34,"social_meta":85,"head_meta":87,"extra_data":89,"updated_unix":27},"burns-what-to-do-first-aid-for-burns","",{"@graph":35,"@context":84},[36,53,67],{"@type":37,"itemListElement":38},"BreadcrumbList",[39,43,47,50],{"item":40,"name":41,"@type":42,"position":20},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":44,"name":45,"@type":42,"position":46},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":48,"name":12,"@type":42,"position":49},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/",3,{"item":51,"name":13,"@type":42,"position":52},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/burns-what-to-do-first-aid-for-burns/88714/",4,{"url":51,"name":13,"@type":54,"author":55,"headline":13,"publisher":57,"fileFormat":60,"inLanguage":23,"description":14,"dateModified":61,"datePublished":61,"encodingFormat":60,"isAccessibleForFree":62,"interactionStatistic":63},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":56},"Person",{"url":40,"name":58,"@type":59},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-17",true,{"@type":64,"interactionType":65,"userInteractionCount":4},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":66},"ViewAction",{"@type":68,"mainEntity":69},"FAQPage",[70,76,80],{"name":71,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":73},"What is the first step when someone gets a burn?","Question",{"text":74,"@type":75},"Run clean, cool water over the burned area for at least ten minutes, and gently place cool, clean cloths on the area if needed.","Answer",{"name":77,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":78},"Should blisters be broken during burn treatment?",{"text":79,"@type":75},"No. The treatment should avoid breaking any blisters open while cooling and covering the burn.",{"name":81,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":82},"When should a doctor or health worker be consulted?",{"text":83,"@type":75},"Seek medical help if the burned area is larger than eight centimeters in diameter or if there are signs of infection, or if the area is not better in about a week.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":51,"og:type":86,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":58,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":88,"canonical":51},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":24},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":91},[92,96,100,104,109,114,117,121,126,129,133],{"id":20,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":93,"show_sort_weight":94,"slug":95},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":46,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":97,"show_sort_weight":98,"slug":99},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":52,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":101,"show_sort_weight":102,"slug":103},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":105,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":106,"show_sort_weight":107,"slug":108},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":110,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":111,"show_sort_weight":112,"slug":113},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":115,"slug":116},40,"healthcare",{"id":118,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":119,"show_sort_weight":28,"slug":120},8,"Research & Report","research-report",{"id":122,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":123,"show_sort_weight":124,"slug":125},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":124,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":127,"show_sort_weight":124,"slug":128},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":130,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":131,"show_sort_weight":130,"slug":132},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":134,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":135,"show_sort_weight":105,"slug":136},19,"General","general"]
