For eligible qualifications: \nPoints depend on the qualification's level, size, and number of possible (passing) grades. \n2. Work out the qualification size: \n• Use its Guided Learning Hours (GLH) value. \n• Compare it with Table 1 in Section 1 to find its GCSE size (Level 2) . \n3. Find the points value: \no For Level 2 qualifications: Check Tables 4a to 4m in Section 4. \nImportant note: \nQualifications with the same level, size, and number of passing grades get the same performance points, even if the grade labels are different. For example, A/B/C/D is treated the same as one graded D*/D/M/P if they’re the same level and size. \nPost 16 Level 2 BTEC examples \nThe following examples have been created using the * Department for Education’s guidance. \nBTEC Technical \nOur BTEC Level 2 Technical suite for 16-19-year-olds will be available from September 2025. It includes: \n\n| Qualification | Available from | GLH | Band |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry for Early Years Practitioners (Diploma) | September 2025 | 285 | E |\n| Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry for Lean Manufacturing Operatives (Diploma) | September 2025 | 360 | F |\n\nTherefore, as demonstrated in Table 1: \n• equivalent to 3 or 4 GCSEs [depending on the GLH] \nThey are graded Pass/Fail, a one-grade structure. \nTherefore, use Table 4a to work out performance points. \nBTEC Technical [Sport] \nOur BTEC Level 2 Technical Sport suite for 16-19-year-olds will be available from September 2025. It includes: \n\n| Qualification | Available from | GLH | Band |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry for Gym Instructors (Diploma) | September 2025 | 360 | F |\n| Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry for Recreation Assistants (Diploma) | September 2025 | 360 | F |\n| Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry in Leading Community Activity (Diploma) | September 2025 | 360 | F |\n\nTherefore, as demonstrated in Table 1: \n• equivalent to 4 GCSEs \nThey are graded PP/PM/MM/MD/DD, a five-grade structure. Therefore, use Table 4a to work out performance points. \n*Please note: \nThe above information has been created using the Department for Education’s Performance points: a practical guide: April 2024 and Qualifications funding \napproval manual: from August 2025. \nThe information held in this document is correct at the time of publishing. \nHowever, please note the information may change if the DfE amend their funding requirements.
