One in five UK working age adults have one or more BTECs, and 6 million learners have achieved a BTEC in the last decade. \nThe courses are developed hand-in-glove with employers. This approach ensures that not only are the learners set up for a successful transition into the workplace, but they will go into jobs that will help satisfy the UK economy’s widening skills gaps. \nIncluded in the class of 2023 are many future healthcare professionals, engineers and construction workers who are so vital to the UK’s economy. \nThere is increasing demand from young people for BTEC courses in UK schools. The combination of traditional academic learning with vocational and transferable skills allows young people to prepare for the possibilities that will be opened to them as the careers of the future evolve. \nIntroduction: Understanding the BTEC Tech Awards \nBTEC Tech Awards \n• Level 1 and level 2 qualifications designed for Key Stage 4 students in schools in England and Northern Ireland to study alongside GCSEs. \n• They’re the same size as a single GCSE. \n• Their aim: to give students a taste of what a sector is like, and the skills and confidence to take their next steps. \n• Designed to meet the DfE’s guidance for Key Stage 4 performance measures in England to count in the ‘Open group’ (non-EBacc category) of Progress 8. \nIntroduction: Understanding BTEC Tech Awards \nBTEC Tech Awards give students the chance to discover their aptitude for a career in a particular sector and develop essential knowledge and skills. \nEvery BTEC Tech Award has the same three components: \nComponent 1 \nExplore the sector \nComponent 2 \nDevelop knowledge, skills and best practices \nComponent 3 \nApply knowledge, skills and best practices \nThese components build on each other to motivate your students by helping them put what they’ve learned into practice and grow in confidence. \nContext of the 2022/23 academic year \nThis academic year in line with the regulatory guidance from Ofqual the aim was to return to pre-pandemic performance standards and we had checks and balances in place to allow us to be sensitive to the disruption learners have faced. \nBTEC courses have a different structure and design to academic qualifications – BTECs are modular qualifications (with assessments taking place throughout the course) compared to GCSEs and A levels which are linear (assessed and awarded at the same time at the end of the year) . \nThe aim of all awarding bodies has been to ensure fairness for learners by neither advantaging or \ndisadvantaging any one group of students compared to their peers. Further information can be found here. \nWhen making comparisons to historical years we need to be mindful, as the context and aim of last academic year was to see it as a transition year before a return to pre-pandemic standards this academic year. There have also been significant changes in the cohort make-up and size from historical years. \nAs in every year, there was an appeals process in place. \nBTEC Tech Awards: Key Headlines \nFive subjects (Performing Arts, Health & Social Care, Enterprise, Engineering and Creative Media) have been available since 2018-19, with certifications for six more subjects (Art & Design Practice, Child Development, Digital Information Technology, Music Practice, Sport, Travel & Tourism) available since 2019-20. \nAs 2022/23 is the final certification opportunity for these legacy Tech Awards (except for Engineering)","cbCaikd5ZD8q501k","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikd5ZD8q501k","pdf",1481426,21,"English","# BTEC Tech Awards Results 2023\n## Introduction: Understanding Tech Awards Learner Completion\n## Introduction: Understanding the BTEC Tech Awards\n## Context of the 2022/23 academic year\n## BTEC Tech Awards: Key Headlines\n## Introduction: Understanding BTEC Tech Award Results\n## Data definitions\n## The 2022-23 academic year\n## 2023 - Learner completions","[{\"question\":\"What are the three components of a BTEC Tech Award?\",\"answer\":\"Each BTEC Tech Award includes three components: explore the sector, develop knowledge/skills and best practices, and apply those knowledge and skills in practice.\"},{\"question\":\"What does “completion” mean in these results?\",\"answer\":\"Completion refers to qualifications where the learner has been awarded a grade for the qualification, including U (unclassifed).\"},{\"question\":\"How are pass outcomes determined in the publication?\",\"answer\":\"Pass figures cover learners who achieve a Pass grade or above.
