The Tutor will develop an assignment based on a theme and topic set by Pearson each year. Themes and topics are released in June and become ‘active’ in July. The theme and topic will remain ‘active’ until the following July \nThe annual release of the theme and topic follows a process of sector and academic review and validation. Pearson will consult with uniformed protective services sector specialists and academics to identify an appropriate theme and topic for the year. \nYou will find the latest Theme & Topic Release at the end of this document \nThe purpose of the Pearson-set Assignment \nThe purpose and rationale of having Pearson-set units on BTEC RQF Nationals is as follows: \n􀁸 Standardisation of learner work – Assessing the quality of learner work, that it is meeting the level and the requirements of the unit across all centres, that grade decisions and assessor feedback are justified, and that internal verification and moderation processes are picking up any discrepancies and issues. The Pearson-set unit will be included in the annual sampling of units by the Standards Verifier. \n􀁸 Sharing of good practice – We will share good practice in relation to themes such as innovative approaches to delivery, the use of digital literacy, enhancement of learner employability skills and employer engagement. The Aim of the Pearson-set unit is to provide a common framework for centres to develop work that will allow cross-sector benchmarking, through the standardisation of learner work, and identification and sharing of ‘best practice’ in teaching and learning. Pearson will share the ‘best practice’ results with all centres. \nBTEC Nationals in Uniformed Protective Services 4 \nThe Relationship between Theme, Topic and Assignment \nIn preparing to deliver and assess this unit, Tutors should familiarise themse","cbCaiuaqqQfApOKN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiuaqqQfApOKN","pdf",635869,13,"English","# Contents\n## Introduction\n## The purpose of the Pearson-set Assignment\n## The Relationship between Theme, Topic and Assignment\n## The Role of the Tutor\n## Guidance for Tutors\n## Writing an Effective Assignment Brief\n## Development and Review\n## Authentication of learner work\n## Guidance for Learners\n## Guidance for Learners Table\n## 2026/2027 Pearson Set Theme and Topics","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the Pearson-set assignment for BTEC Nationals Unit 1?\",\"answer\":\"It standardises learner work so grading and feedback are consistent across centres, supports internal verification and moderation, and enables annual sampling by the Standards Verifier.\"},{\"question\":\"How do themes and topics relate to the assignment?\",\"answer\":\"Tutors must develop an assignment based on a theme and topic set by Pearson each year, ensuring the work lets learners achieve the unit’s learning aims and essential content rather than being only about the topic.\"},{\"question\":\"What are tutors expected to do regarding learner guidance and authentication?\",\"answer\":\"Tutors provide initial planning support and regular monitoring, avoid excessive guidance when reviewing drafts, allocate time for assessment work, and authenticate learners’ work through ongoing progress checks and interim reviews.\"}]","BTEC Nationals in Uniformed Protective Services Unit 1 - Citizenship and Diversity (Pearson-set) | PDF",1792467456,33]
