One in five UK working age adults have one or more BTECs, and 6 million learners have achieved a BTEC in the last decade. \nThe courses are developed hand-in-glove with employers. This approach ensures that not only are the learners set up for a successful transition into the workplace, but they will go into jobs that will help satisfy the UK economy’s widening skills gaps. Included in the class of 2022 are many future healthcare professionals, engineers and construction workers who are so vital to the UK’s economy. \nLevel 3 BTECs are globally recognised and continue to be the most popular vocational qualification to support progress to university-approximately 50% of Level 3 BTEC graduates will continue into Higher Education with the rest going into employment, an apprenticeship or further study. \nBTEC Nationals (2016): Supporting Student Progression to HE, Career & Lifelong Learning \n• Min. 40-60% mandatory content, developed in consultation with over 5,000 stakeholders \n• Designed to be ‘Applied Generals’(primary progression is Higher Education), and ‘Tech Levels’(primary progression is to employment) \n• Two sectors included in new Trailblazer apprenticeships (Construction, Engineering) \n• Features employability skills aligned to those identified in ‘Future of Skills and Employment’ report \n• Min. 30-40% externally assessed (via a mix of exams and tasks) \n• Contains internal assessment to develop and assess learners’ practical skills \n• Learners must obtain a minimum points threshold across units to achieve thequalification \n• Supports social mobility – access and progression \n• Designed to be part of 16/19 curriculum, builds on Level 2, aids progression to Level 4 \n• Different sizes for different learner profiles \n• Supports and is largely funded for learners aged 19-23 years \nContext of the 2021/22 academic year \nThis academic year in line with the regulatory guidance from Ofqual the aim was to see 2022 as a transition year to reflect that we are still in the pandemic recovery. \nBTEC courses have a different structure and design to academic qualifications – BTECs are modular qualifications (with assessments taking place throughout the course) compared to GCSEs and A levels which are linear (assessed and awarded at the same time at the end of the year) . \nThe aim of all awarding bodies has been to ensure fairness for learners by neither advantaging or disadvantaging any one group of students compared to their peers. Further information can be found here. \nAs the structure and delivery for BTEC and GCSE/A Levels are different, different mitigations had to be used to reduce the impact of the pandemic. For BTECs the safety nets in place for learners were: \n􀀀 Unit-level Teacher Assessed Grades (UTAGs) for assessments due to be taken in 2020/21 but could not be completed. \n􀀀 Streamlined assessment for up to two internal units, depending on size of BTEC qualification taken in 2021/2022 . \n􀀀 Reviewing where grade boundaries are set for BTEC external assessments, after marking was undertaken and in consideration of a variety of factors (including level of demand of the assessments, context in which they were undertaken) . \n􀀀 Special considerations for those who miss external assessments and cannot sit them later, or for those eligible whose exam performance was affected. \nAs BTECs are modular the journey to certification for ","cbCaijnltNADfcn2","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijnltNADfcn2","pdf",1812865,47,"English","# Introduction: BTEC L3 qualifications and Understanding the New BTEC Nationals\n# Learner Achievement (Grade outcomes and technical reporting)\n# BTEC L3 qualifications\n# Context of the 2021/22 academic year\n# BTEC Nationals (2016): Key Headlines\n# Introduction: Understanding the BTEC Nationals (2016)\n# BTEC Nationals (2016-RQF) Overview","[{\"question\":\"What progression routes are built into the new BTEC Nationals (2016)?\",\"answer\":\"The document describes the qualifications as designed for two primary progression routes: Higher Education for applied generals and employment for tech levels.
