During the remainder of the week-long workshop, students will review all of the sections of the HSPT test-Verbal Skills, Math, Reading, Language, and Quantitative Skills. On the final day of camp, students will take the HIgh School Placement Test, which is an important first step of the application process.  \nSome of the skills that will be emphasized during the course are time management, problem solving strategies, and content learning.  \nThe High School Placement Test (HSPT) can be a daunting challenge to middle school students and a stressful part of the application process to an independent school.  \nLet us take away some of the intimidation by preparing your child to do his or her best work on this important exam.  \nCrime Scene Investigation  \nJune 15-19, 12:30 p. m.– 3:30 p. m.  \nInvestigate a mock-murder scene by collecting and analyzing evidence. Students in this workshop will solve a murder by analyzing hair, fiber, footprints, fingerprints, blood evidence, etc. They’ll even prepare and run a real DNA fingerprint to help figure out “who done it”! Students will use equipment such as microscopes, micropipettors, and gel electrophoresis chambers.  \nBiotechnology  \nJune 8-12, 12:30 p. m.– 3:30 p. m.  \nDuring this lab-intensive, exciting experience, students will isolate their DNA and wear it in a necklace, perform a genetic recombination experiment to make bacteria glow, and use mircropipettors to load and run a DNA fingerprint to determine the identity of a criminal. Students will be introduced to biotechniques used in the study of genetics and biochemistry such as PCR, vertical and horizontal gel electrophoresis, and column chromatography. The running workshop is designed to help ALL athletes in ALL sports improve their speed, agility, and coordination by doing plyometric drills, speed chutes, bungee, and drills designed to increase propulsion, responses, and rate of stride. Prep runners will conclude their week with a track meet, where all families are invited and encouraged to attend.  \nFootball  \nJune 8-10, 8:00-10:00 a. m. Grades 5th-9th  \nPrep football campers will learn basic to advanced techniques from two-time State Finalist Head Football Coach Mic Roessler. All phases of the game, offense, defense, and special teams, will be taught. Some of the techniques that campers will be properly instructed on are blocking, tackling, pass rushing, pass protection, passing, catching, punting, kicking, and snapping.
