The foreword explains the National Curriculum Framework (2005) principle of linking children’s school life with their life outside school, moving away from bookish learning and rote memorization. It emphasizes creativity, initiative, and treating children as participants in learning. The text also discusses flexibility in school routines, appropriate teaching days, and effective teaching and evaluation methods, supported by classroom activities, contemplation, group discussion, and hands-on experiences.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":20,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/book-three-textbook-in-english-for-class-iii-foreword/319391/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/book-three-textbook-in-english-for-class-iii-foreword/319391.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Rowan","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-21","2026-09-20",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":52},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"What school. This principle marks adeparture from the legacy of bookish learning which continues to shape oursystem and causes a gap between the school, home and community.Thesyllabi and textbooks developed on the basis of NCF signify an attempt toimplement this basic idea. They also attempt to discourage rote learning andthe maintenance of sharp boundaries between different subject areas.Wehope these measures will take us significantly further in the direction of achild-centred system of education outlined in the National Policy onEducation(1986). \nThe success of this effort depends on the steps that school principals andteachers will take to encourage children to reflect on their own learning and topursue imaginative activities and questions. We must recognise that givenspace, time and freedom, children generate new knowledge by engaging withthe information passed on to them by adults.Treating the prescribed textbookas the sole basis of examination is one of the key reasons why other resourcesand sites oflearning areignored.Inculcating creativity and initiative is possibleifwe perceive and treat children as participants in learning, not as receivers ofafixedbody of knowledge.
