He pulls out an earbud and grabs the pamphlet from me.  \n“What is it?” he tosses it aside.  \n“A couple's camping retreat. They have workshops and bonfires. All of it.”  \nHe looks at me like I am stupid.  \n“And you want to go?” I shrug.  \n“Maybe you can invite Levi and Kylee also, that way your best friend is with you also.” He rubs his day-old stubble with his hand, thinking about the idea.  \n“Sure, why not. A little outdoors would do us all good.” I smile, pleased  \nthat he agreed, and walk out of the gym. Letting him do his thing. I pull out my phone and tap the call button for Levi.  \n“What’s up, Trouble?” The nickname slides through me like heat.  \nI step outside onto the patio, closing the sliding door behind me, so Tyler can’t overhear. The late afternoon sun is too bright and warm. It feels like it’s mocking me.  \n“Since when do you call me that?” I ask, keeping my tone light.  \nA chuckle hums through the phone.  \n“Since you started plotting something.  \nI lean against the railing, staring out at the empty yard.“I don’t plot.”  \n“Ro,” he says, softer now.“You always plot.”  \nThe way he says my name, like it belongs to him, makes my stomach twist.  \n“I talked Tyler into going to Ironcliff Falls Retreat,” I tell him.“Fourth of July weekend. The couple’s thing with cabins, bonfires, and workshops.  \nYou know, the whole shabang.”There is silence on the other end.  \n“And?” he says.  \n“And I suggested you and Kylee come too. You know…make it a group thing.”  \nAnother pause, I can almost see him rubbing the back of his neck as his jaw tightens.  \n“That your idea,” he says slowly,“or his?”  \n“Mine.”  \n“And why’s that?”  \nBecause I need fucking proof.
