She obeyed and, a few paces inside the literary agent's luxuriously furnished office, was riveted, her green-gold eyes fixed on the man who was standing with his back to her, looking down from the window on to busy Piccadilly.  \nHis imposing height, the width of his shoulders, the arrogant tilt of his dark head, his stance—legs a little apart, hands thrust deep into his pockets—she knew of old.  \nShe also knew that his physical strength was matched by a powerful intellect, a rapier-sharp brain that made him doubly formidable and caused many a lesser man to appear slow and lacking in perception.  \nHe swung round to face her with a suddenness that startled her, making her heart lurch and her breath catch audibly.  \nThat lean, strong-boned face, the winged curve of those almost black brows, the wide mouth with its fuller lower lip, and the slight cleft in thesquarish chin, were achingly familiar.
