The course develops anatomical vocabulary, identifies macroscopic and microscopic structures, and explains homeostasis using feedback-loop mechanisms. Students study tissue types, osseous histology, skeletal muscle physiology and anatomy, neurophysiology and anatomy, and sensory systems in a model-based laboratory setting. It emphasizes interrelationships among organ systems and pathophysiological mechanisms, supported by laboratory procedures and graph-data interpretation.","ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY I \nBIOL3455.0U1 W; 11:30 AM-3:30 PM ECSW 1.315 \nInstructor \nOffice \nOffice Hours \nRuben D. The course is designed to give the pre-professional health care student a detailed fundamental background to enable the student to excel in the anatomical and physiological sciences within the professional school curriculum. This first-half study of the structure-function relationship includes a survey of tissue types, osseous histology and structures, skeletal muscle physiology and anatomy, neurophysiology and anatomy and sensory systems. Emphasis will be placed on the anatomy, physiology, and the interrelationships of these systems as outlined in a model-based laboratory setting. \nStudent Learning Outcomes: \n1. Develop an anatomical vocabulary to effectively describe clinical findings from a physical examination. \n2. Recognize the macroscopic and microscopic anatomical structures of human body and explain their physiological roles. \n3. Describe the principle of homeostasis and the feedback loops to control physiological systems in the human body. \n4. Explain how physiological processes, mechanisms and pathways of the human body influence and maintain human homeostasis. \n5. Recognize and explain the interrelationships between organ systems, their anatomical structures, and their physiological functions in the human body. \n6. Recognize and explain the pathophysiological mechanisms for homeostatic imbalances. \n7. Demonstrate laboratory procedures to examine anatomical structures (in models, dissections, and microscopic slides) and determine their physiological functions. \n8. Analyze and interpret data from anatomical and physiological graphs. \nCourse Pre-Requisite, Co-Requisite, and/or Other Restrictions: \nPre-requisite: Introduction to Modern Biology II (BIOL2312) or equivalent. \nCo-requisite: Human Anatomy & Physiology Lab: BIOL 3455. 3U1 & 3U2 . \nLab Sections: \nLab Section \n3U1 \n3U2 \nDays & Times \nM, 11:45am – 3:45pm \nM, 4:00pm – 8:00pm \nRoom \nML2 1.202 \nML2 1.202 \nProfessor \nDr. Ramirez \nDr. Ramirez \nRequired Textbook and Materials: \nLECTURE LAB \n\n| 1.
