By examining the concept of the \"Future Classroom,\" which extends learning spaces into virtual, augmented, and AI-driven realities, this study asks whether digital spaces can be considered as \"real\" as their physical counterparts. It investigates how digital and AI technologies alter our perception of space, knowledge acquisition, and the learning experience. By analyzing key stakeholders, including students, educators, and policymakers, the study aims to reveal how these new forms of educational environments affect not only pedagogy but also social interactions, identity formation, and even the broader societal constructs of education. The research drew on interdisciplinary theories from education, technology, and philosophy to assess whether the immersion into digital spaces, like the metaverse, creates new forms of educational realities or merely extends the current ones into another dimension. This work seeks to critically assess the transformative impact of these spaces while considering the role of the ed-tech industry in shaping future classrooms. \nKEYWORDS: Ontological Shifts, Digital Classrooms, AI, Education, Pedagogical Transformation, Immersive Technologies, Ed-Tech Ethics \n1 INTRODUCTION \nThe evolution of educational spaces has been a continuous process, shaped by technological, cultural, and pedagogical advancements (Alam & Mohanty, 2023) . From the traditional one-room schoolhouse to the contemporary smart classroom, the physical setting of education has long been integral to the learning experience (Shainy, 2021) . Historically, education has relied on tangible, physical spaces where students and teachers interact directly, facilitated by physical materials such as textbooks, blackboards, and laboratory equipment. However, the rapid development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) has fundamentally altered this paradigm, giving rise to a new era of educational environments that transcend physical boundaries (Mishra, 2024) . \nThe integration of digital technologies into education began with the advent of personal computers and the internet in the late 20th century, enabling online learning platforms, virtual classrooms, and distance education programs (Kovtoniuk et al. , 2022; Malysheva et al. , 2022) . Over time, these technologies have become more sophisticated, incorporating tools like learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing software, and interactive digital resources (Matthew et al. , 2021) . The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated this transition, as schools and universities worldwide were compelled to adopt remote learning on an unprecedented scale (Pregowska et al. , 2021) . This global shift marked the potential of digital spaces to serve as viable alternatives to traditional classrooms while highlighting challenges related to accessibility, engagement, and equity. \nIn parallel, the emergence of AI technologies has introduced new possibilities for personalizing education and enhancing the learning process (Tapalova & Zhiyenbayeva, 2022) . AI-driven tools such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning platforms , and automated grading systems have demonstrated the potential to address individual learner needs, streamline administrative tasks, and provide data-driven insights into educational outcomes (Munaandla et al. , 2020; Strielkowski et al. , 2024) . Moreover, immersive technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have expanded t","cbCaitNggCS8ORcP","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitNggCS8ORcP","pdf",155830,12,"English","en",105,"# Introduction\n## Background and evolution of educational spaces\n## Digital technologies and the acceleration of online learning\n## AI technologies, personalization, and learning support\n## Immersive technologies and the Future Classroom concept\n## Ontological questions and ethical debates","[{\"question\":\"Which stakeholders does the research consider when evaluating future classrooms?\",\"answer\":\"The research considers students, educators, and policymakers, examining how these environments affect teaching practices and broader social and identity outcomes.\"}]","Beyond the Physical - Exploring the Ontological Implications of Future Classrooms in Digital and AI - Mediated Spaces | PDF",1792092875,{"code":4,"msg":81,"data":82},"ok",{"site_id":75,"language":74,"slug":83,"title":65,"keywords":84,"description":66,"schema_data":85,"social_meta":131,"head_meta":133,"extra_data":135,"updated_unix":136},"beyond-the-physical-exploring-the-ontological-implications-of-future-classrooms-in-digital-and-ai-mediated-spaces","",{"@graph":86,"@context":130},[87,101,121],{"@type":88,"itemListElement":89},"BreadcrumbList",[90,94,96,99],{"item":91,"name":92,"@type":93,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":95,"name":9,"@type":93,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":97,"name":40,"@type":93,"position":98},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/research-report/",3,{"item":100,"name":65,"@type":93,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/beyond-the-physical-exploring-the-ontological-implications-of-future-classrooms-in-digital-and-ai-mediated-spaces/601568/",{"url":100,"name":65,"@type":102,"image":103,"author":108,"headline":65,"publisher":110,"fileFormat":113,"inLanguage":74,"description":66,"dateModified":114,"datePublished":115,"encodingFormat":113,"isAccessibleForFree":116,"interactionStatistic":117},"DigitalDocument",{"url":104,"@type":105,"width":106,"height":107},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/beyond-the-physical-exploring-the-ontological-implications-of-future-classrooms-in-digital-and-ai-mediated-spaces/601568.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":63,"@type":109},"Person",{"url":91,"name":111,"@type":112},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-11-03","2026-10-15",true,{"@type":118,"interactionType":119,"userInteractionCount":44},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":120},"ViewAction",{"@type":122,"mainEntity":123},"FAQPage",[124],{"name":125,"@type":126,"acceptedAnswer":127},"Which stakeholders does the research consider when evaluating future classrooms?","Question",{"text":128,"@type":129},"The research considers students, educators, and policymakers, examining how these environments affect teaching practices and broader social and identity outcomes.","Answer","https://schema.org",{"og:url":100,"og:type":132,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":111,"og:description":66},"article",{"robots":134,"canonical":100},"index,follow",{"doc_id":61,"site_id":75},1792171772]
