\njournal literature cited in The New York Times.  \nBrief summaries of current health-related research often appear first in news-  \nContinued on page 4  \npapers and on TV and radio.These brief reports,sometimes heard in pass-  \ning,may lead a person on a search for more complete information.News  \nreports are often based on data that is explained in greater detail in medical  \njournal articles or reported at professional scientific meetings.“Biomedicine  \nand Health in the News,\"begun in the fall of 1994,cites specific medical  \njournal articles and scientific meeting reports announced in the media.  \nEach newspaper article is summarized briefly and a complete citation to The  \nNew York Times article is included.Whenever possible,the full citation to  \nthe published medical or scientific journal article is reported as well.If the  \nlibrary has not yet received the journal issue,the complete citation may not  \nbe available.In these cases,the names of researchers
