BACKPACKING FOOD | DEFINITIVE GUIDE \nWritten by Iron Tazz \nIRONTAZZ.COM \nYour food is your fuel. \nChoosing the right food is one of the most important factors that should go into the planning of any backpacking trip. \nEasier said than done... \nPersonal preferences, diets, length of trip and cash flow can mix things up quite a bit. \nI've tried just about everything over the past decade & consider this to be an art form not to betaken lightly. \nI'm going to break it all down for you in this guide. \n2 \nBEST BACKPACKING FOOD | DEFINITIVE GUIDE 1 \nBest Backpacking Food \n● Lightweight \n● Calorie Dense \n● Take up Little Space \n● High Energy \n● Nutritious \n● Quick & Easy to Cook \nLightweight \nLeave the canned goods at home. \nYour backpack is probably already HEAVY enough as it is. Dehydrated and freeze-dried meals are the way to go. Try to limit carrying any foods that contain water. \nCalorie Dense \n4 \nChoosing foods with a high caloric density is the easiest way to get the weight of your food down. \nHigh-fat content is king. \nPer ounce, these fatty foods are packed with the most calories. \n● Olive Oil -250- \n● Coconut Oil -244- \n● Coconut Milk Powder-225- \n● Walnuts-185- \n● Hemp Seeds-180- \n● Peanuts -166- \n● Almonds-165- \n● Dark Chocolate-158- \nEverything besides the chocolate is vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free. \nI ALWAYS try to pack as much of these foods as possible. \nTake up Little Space \nIf you're just doing an overnight trip this isn't too big of a concern. \nAnything more than that and this becomes essential. \nLast summer I took on the challenge of carrying 14 days worth of food for 2 people. I hit the trail with 28 days of food in my bag. \nNot only was I able to fit everything in my bag. \nOn day 14 we had more energy than any previous day of the trip. \n5 \nRepackaging foods can help you here as well. \nFor example, you can pour the contents of your macaroni box into a ziplock baggie. Try to save and reuse your ziplock bags if possible. \nProvide Sustainable Energy \nThe food I eat on the trail affects my energy levels more than any other factor. \nHitting the right balance of fats, proteins, carbs, fiber & nutrition is key here. \nRemember that different foods affect people much differently. \nStart experimenting. Take notes on the ways different foods affect your energy levels. \n\n| Quick and Easy to Cook\u003Cbr>This gives you more time to hike & soak up the scenery.\u003Cbr>If you plan on cooking, choose meals that just require bringing your water to a boil.
