Press,Vishwas Nagar,Delhi-110032 \n# Preface\n\nSexual behaviour constitutes an important segment of humanbehaviour. It is concerned with frequency,mutuality,circum-stances etc.of the sex act,the various sexual outlets fordifferent age groups, class and castes, the satisfactoriness ofthese, conditions determining such satisfactoriness etc.Studieson what men and women actually do in the area of sex shallincrease our understanding of sex life in India, may lead tofruitful public debates on the subject and thereby improvethe quality of life in India. This book is intended to stimulateinterest in studies in this subject by behavioural scientists inIndia. The general reader may also find the book useful as anintroduction to a complex topic. \nThe book begins with a background for the understandingof the act of love in its various phases. The attempt here hasbeen to integrate psychological, social and behavioural data onsexuality and present these in a logical sequence. We havetried to integrate herein the Westem ideas with principles andpractices by the ancient Indian scholar Vatsyayan. \nThe empirical study reported here is tillustrative of the typeof studies that can be done in this field. This study was partlyfunded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of theGovernment of India. The attempt in this study has been todevelop an appropriate tool for the study of sexual behaviourof men for use by behavioural scientists in India.Considera-tions relating to reliability and validity of such studies andother problems likely to be faced by the researcher in thisarea have been discussed. The schedule developed has beenpresented and it is hoped that Indian scientists shall be able touse this for their own studies. \nData on sexual behaviour of a small Indian sample havebeen presented, including five Case Histories.Similar studies \nwich larger samples have been suggested. There is a chapterdealing with the mode of acquisition of knowledge on sexualmatters by subjects of this study. This chapter on Sex Educa-tion is expected to be of interest to educationists interested inthe introduction of sex education in schools. It is suggestedthat curriculum for sex education be framed on the basis ofempirical data about how Indian children come to acquire theirknowledge of sex matters in real life—from whom,at whatages and with what degree of accuracy. \nThere are many debatable but unresolved issues in thearea of sex.Four of these have been discussed. One relates toreligion and contraception.Religion shall continue to have itssay in the sex life of people,as it has done in the past.On theother hand, the family planning movement in India is affectingsexual attitudes and practices of people in a profound thoughnot yet well-understood manner. An examination of the twomajor influences of religion and the family planning movementin their mutual interaction is thus relevant and desirable.Sideby side, sexual norms and mores are changing all overthe world and these are increasingly touching the Indian life, particularly in the urban centres and for the young people.Thechanging sexual norms and perception of sex roles also overlapthe current Indian feminist movement concerned with the roleand status ","cbCaibtuiLkEnNQL","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibtuiLkEnNQL","pdf",14531563,244,"English","# Preface","[{\"question\":\"What aspects
